I received a very well packet little parcel from Dan today,he had said he had sent me something but I had forgotten.

Which made it an even more pleasant surprise.

First I read the note enclosed with it, then I unpacked the knives.

Inside was a very nice Case 2 blade with absolutely perfect snap, the nail nicks where in exactly the right place for easy opening.
It just had a nice feel to it.
The fact that Dan used to carry it himself made it even more special,I love things with history that have been used.
In England we think everyone in Canada is fending of bears and chopping down Redwoods with a pocket knife. 😁

The other knife was a SAK Alox (you know I love these dont you) another twin blade.
As you can see it has the most wonderful colour, is an old cross and has the very desirable old design small blade.

Thank you Dan I will treasure these and your generous gesture.

Oh I forgot it gets better, the box had Charlie Cs sticker on it was obviously a re purposed box,so even the box has history...love it.

I was going for a haircut and a coffee so I took the Case with and introduced it to my favourite coffee shop.

Some photos in a minute.

Is Albany a company or a place?

Yes.
A few locations with that name. The most (in?)famous being Albany, New York.
There is also a Albany, Western Australia.
Albany, Canada, is a small town in Nova Scotia.

There are probably a few "Albany __" businesses ... "Albany Bakery" (or Deli?) ... "Albany Motors" ... and such out there too.

Good looking knives.👍

There used to be an Albany prison on the Isle of Wight! :D

I had no idea that case made knives of such good quality I would say its on a par with the bunny knife.
I have the same model, but from a later year (1975), and the budget version (Delrin handles):

I got it new from my father when I was a kid. You can see it has some wear and tear, but it still has excellent W&T, and makes the most satisfying sound opening and closing. I don’t have any other fancy slipjoints to compare it to, but everything on it is flush and smooth with no gaps or rough edges anywhere. I think I will carry it today in solidarity…

Edit:
I just noticed that the pen blade on mine is on the other side, so the nail nicks are on opposite sides of the knife.

danno50 danno50 A very notable gent, he sent me a fine generous surprise earlier on in the year too

CASE Redbone from that era is a benchmark in Traditionals, CASE can still make a very tidy knife today- in fact I find myself carrying & using them much more than GEC examples, their Stockman are still not bettered by GEC either.

Glad the package got there safely. The Alox was given to me by a fellow I was renting a boat from when I was doing some work on the Winnipeg River in Manitoba. It was a company knife. I am pretty sure it was Albany Felt. I looked the company up and it is headquartered in New York State. Maybe they had a plant in Manitoba?

Is Albany a company or a place? Well, both. The Albany Felt Co. was founded in 1895 in Albany, New York (the state capitol) to manufacture felts for paper mills. They have long since diversified into the manufacture of other industrial products, and are now Albany International, Inc. In 2013, they relocated to New Hampshire. I’m sure that Albany Canada is some kind of subsidiary.

Over the years they’ve given away many thousands of pocket knives with advertising on them, notably old Camillus and Camco jacks. Probably more info than you need, but you asked.

Cheers! And congratulations on being the recipient of a couple of nice knives, and the kindness of a friend.

I must of slipped up, I usually take the previous shipping info off a box before I reuse it.
