From carry-on to eBay: The journey of airport security booty

I just don't fly. The bus is hell, but a Train is actually fun and even romantic in a lot of ways! Taking the train is like a little short vacation on the way to your destination! There's a lounge and a dining car... the observation deck is pretty cool too! I have not had any trouble with a knife, but one time the lady bartender saw my Sebenza and said the Conductor would confiscate it if he say it... WTF? N E way... so far so good.

Otherwise ++++++1 on what "fudo" said... nailed it.

Everybody stop flying. How long do you think it would take the airline industry to get all this stupidity repealed if no one showed up at the airport for a few days? The government can only do what we allow them.

I've been told by AmTrak that within the next several years, they will be implementing most of the same restrictions that the airlines already have in place. Right now, you can carry a SAK or regular pocket knife, but the ticketing agent here (Martinez, CA) told me they will take any larger knife visibly clipped or sheathed.

The train is a blast, if you're willing to compromise on schedules and such. For us, we make the train part of the vacation, not just a mode of transportation.
