From double to single bevel chisel...

I was bored the other day, so I decided to "fix up" my CQC6. It was already a '96 vintage with the more aggressive point angle, but had a slight double bevel from improper sharpening. So, one Norton Fine India, 2 Spyderco bench stones, 4 grits of sandpaper (250, 400, 600, 1500) and a liberal stropping on my Puma strop later, I now have a gorgeous satiny single bevel on my 6. Ohhhhh, the difference in cutting prowess is like night and day. I can only imagine you lucky bastids who have a single bevel from Ernie himself....drooooool...:D

Anyone else do anything like that? Or am I just bent? ;)

Well I have 2 single bevel CQC6's. I returned one to Ernie after a disagreement with the blade and an arm (guess which one won), anyway I tried sharpening it myself (big mistake, now a double bevel) so back to Ernie it went. Now it is a single bevel again and I keep it sharp on a Kramer Leather Strop.

Any chance of a pic to see how your single bevel turned out ? The only bit that stopped me attempting a single bevel myself was the rear of the blade where it meets the choil. How did you get around the angle to keep the single bevel ?

I rounded off the shoulder of the grind on the Norton, gradually working to a shallower and shallower angle until the bevel itself was resting on the stone. After that, it was just a matter of patience and elbow grease. It helped to take the thumb disk off.
As for pics, until I get a digital camera, it ain't happening. :barf:

FYI
You don't need a Digital Camera.

Take pics with your regular camera, take the film to Walgreen's to be developed and tell them you want the pics on a CD. The resolution you'll get is better than all but the most high end digital cameras, and of course, you can then upload from CD to hard drive and post them here!
:D
