From moderns to a traditional collection in a week...

As soon as I figure out how, I will.

Thanks - Bob

Gotcha, give me a few minutes!

Thanks - Bob

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! This seems like a great section of the site, and I learned a lot from eavesdropping over the last few weeks. I definitely appreciate the "story" behind an individual piece as opposed to the "did you get this new thing yet?" I fell into with the moderns (not a knock on the modern style; just how I went about it).

Welcome. The traditionals you've accumulated, so far, are sweet knives, all. Might I suggest you try a jack knife, to see if it appeals to you ?
Once you go jack, you'll never go back (to moderns).

Great post Carl :)

A couple of good puns in this thread too! :D ;thumpup:

Welcome to The Porch Wundergussy, looks like you've jumped in with both feet! :)

Welcome wundergussy! You and I seem to end up in the same places on the net (TGP, EDCF, here).

Some great looking traditionals you've got there. I really like the stag Northwoods!

I started out with traditionals, then got into moderns for a brief stint now pretty much back to traditionals only. I do have two modern knives left but they both have custom wood scales and are relatively traditional compared to most moderns. I gave up The Gear Page (guitar/music forum) and obsessing over guitar stuff last year for Lent and ended up going crazy with pocket knives...must be a character flaw. :)

What a start to accumulating some traditional knives!

I've been accumulating knives for several months now. I began with moderns, but now have only a few left. I found them too tactical looking. Also, they seemed, to me, anyway, to lack soul. My other interests are traditional shaving, fountain pens, automatic watches, Native American culture and jewelry, fedoras, traditional clothing (yeah, bow ties) - so gravitating to traditional knives only makes sense for me.

I've taken the shot gun approach to traditionals - large and small, multiple blades, single blades, moderns and vintage, stainless (a few) and mostly carbon steel, US-made and some European. If I ever find I like one style more than the others, I'll settle down. Until then, it's an interest that doesn't cost a fortune, and the folks on the Traditional Forum here are a good group of people to get to know.

I am right there with you. I to come from the tacticool world have just recently embraced the world of traditional knives. All I can say is that I could not be happier!

The bug bit me bad guys... I have been a moder/Ti-framelock/tacticool guy for years but grew sick of it for many reasons (the biggest being I don't need a weapon to open my mail). Something about the traditional just makes sense to me, and fits in with my overall aesthetic much more. So, I sold off all my moderns and as of today, here's what I have to rotate to(all except the Cadet were bought from Northwood knives/Knivesshipfree since I try to go local when I can):

And I love how you can see your reflection in the bottom bolster of two of the knives!

Of course, now you have to post a mug shot in the thread 'traditional mug shots.' It's required you know!:)

Ha! Yeah, you and I seem pretty lock-step throughout the internet!

They for sure seem to be more addictive than the pocket clip genre. So many choices of so many cool things!:)

Welcome wundergussy, as you have probably realised you have fallen in with a grand group of fellow travellers, like you i sold all but one of my tactical fright knives to fund my addiction (for the second time round) and am now inching into the wonderfull world of Case, once again welcome and enjoy. Oh yes the tactical i could not part with an Al-Mar SLB1.

Hey! Thanks for coming by. Next time you stop in, have them grab me, I would love to meet you.
