From Russia with Love: Kizlyar Supreme KK0164

Here is the quote from Esav's reference thread, in case anyone is curious:

Sorry guys... These are not Russian knives.. Knives are designed in Russia but made in China for 100%... If you could read Russian I can send you some links to Russian forums. There are no D2 or AUS-8 steel in Russia :)

There is a small group of Russian makers though I do believe. Wasn't there something in Blade or KI awhile back.

I remember I wanted to look into them further but haven't yet.

Anyone have a link to any US vendors to take a look at?

You can PM it to me as not to cross forum rules concerning posting non members. Thanks fellers!

Why don't you just google them? Kizlyar has a fairly extensive website.
I have had one of the Biker folders for some years now. It is solid, well made, with stag covers. It opens as smooth as any expensive folder I have, better than some in fact. Made in the town of Kizlyar in the province of Dagestan. Its marked in cyrillic lettering Kizlyar made in Russia.
I don't know if the Kizlyar Supreme knives are the same, never seen that name before.

It was at the CAS Hanwei booth at BLADE I saw these knives. I would check out their website for what is being imported.

Looks like a great knife for every day carry. I love the scales. Could you post a pic of the in-erds/liner as best you can?

That's a classy looking knife; I like the contrast of the white bone scales with the black blade. With AUS8 steel, that seems like a pretty awesome deal, provided the fit/finish are of quality.

Howdy, gang!

Just thought it was my solemn duty to follow up on this thread, as I recently purchased a satin version of the Kizlyar Supreme Gent folder. I was pretty impressed with the ti-ni coated variant, but must admit to being less enthusiastic about the satin blade. Bone scales were horribly matched, lots o' gaps, and blade play in both the closed and open positions. Might be able to fix some of the play issues with some vise 'tuning.' Maybe I'll give it a go sometime.

I though perhaps, I'd try removing the scales on the satin folder and maybe hit 'em with some Rit dye to even 'em out. Ended up stripping a screw. Ah well. Not the end of the world.

Overall, and at the end of the day, I still think the Gent is a worthwhile buy for such an odd configuration in a traditional--especially for the relatively low-cost (far better values out there though!) Where the black coated model is solidly good, the satin is just ok at best. I don't know if my satin model is just a lemon or if I got a particularly good coated blade Gent. So let it be said... caveat emptor. Handle before purchase!

Note the bone on the satin: more yellow than grandma's last tooth.

Again, note the bone on the satin: pearly white with a nice poppyseed pattern in the bone. Coated model is fairly consistent, both scales.

Anyhoo, thanks for reading!

Apologies, Zemapeli. I was unable to get a pic that would be of any help. I need a better camera! :o

I am the lucky winner of Brett's extra Kizlyar. Since the contest thread is closed, I thought I would post a Thank You here, Brett.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turns out to be an attractive and pocketable knife! Thanks for letting me give it a try, Brett! I will report on it in the future, when I get a chance to do more than open mail with it!
Thank you for your generosity!

Glad to hear it arrived safe and sound! I don't think it will hold a candle to your other knives, sir, but hopefully you get something of a novelty kick out of it! :) Really dig your SFO's, by the way...
