Shall we keep Paul all for ourselves, or share him with the rest of BFC?
I had a project in mind for a long, long time which one sheath maker turned me down on. He just wasn't interested in anything new. I was thrilled when Paul agreed to do it for me, seemingly intrigued by the idea.
And the idea was this: I do lots of small game/Varmint hunting and I have many .22 and other rimfire firearms. Some of them are single shots, and where the hell to put the extra loose rounds? I use cartridge slides sometimes, leather dealies with ammo loops, on my belt. But when wearing a long shirttail out or a jacket, hard to get at them. So this is what I came up with. Paul felt 8 loops would be the maximum, and yeah, that works for me. And quicker than you guys could imagine, he whipped this up for me. Whatdathink? I had him make the belt loop longer, so the knife would ride lower, easier to reach beneath my jacket.
The little rounds slip out fast with a thumbnail pull, but they are very, very secure. I know from using cartridge slides in the past that the stitched loops will last a long, long time if I don't store rounds in them for a long time.
The knife I choose to have the sheath built around is the 165UH. No longer a commonplace knife, but not too valuable to use, either. Of course my 160OT also fits perfectly.
The fit, finish, tooling, stitching, all around the craftsmanship is top-notch! As I had seen from the sheaths Paul made for several of you guys. I could not be happier.
Shown here with my NEF sportsman with a .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire barrel fitted to it. I also have barrels in .22 LR and soon with have a .17M2. Also tossed in the fine Camillus Hornady knife with the .17 HRM 3-D bullet shield to round out the photo. The 165 is a bit big for small game hunting, sure, but a larger knife can be of comfort and great use afield.
All in all, I am so very happy with Paul's work. Thank you, sir!
