The trash:
to treasure:
Markesharp sent me these two knives, a Cattaraugus Easy Opener and an old stag John Primble ISW that is missing a main blade.
Mark refinished the Catt - took it completely apart and cleaned it, then added new Rosewood Handles to the knife.
This was his first try on a shield inlay and he just did a fascinating job on the fit and finish of this knife.
:thumbup::thumbup:
He rough finished the final finish, as I volunteered to do the final finishing when it arrived.
Upon arrival, I went right to work doing my part and the dumb work, elbow grease mostly.

I steel wooled the Rosewood until it had a lustrous shine, then added a couple coats of dark brown Briwax for an antiqued appearance. I also spent some time on the bolster and shield finish, ending up with a semi gloss metal finish. I decided to do some distressing on the wood to make it look just a bit older looking.
Finally, the end bolster had a nasty groove deep in the nickel silver and I could see that was not fixable, without making a new end cap. It looked a little odd until I decided to take a knife and cut a continuation mark into the wood, which makes the wood handle look even more original in appearance. Now the mark looks completely natural and just adds character to the old knife, IMO.
I just love this knife and it is going to look fabulous with my other Catts in the display. Thank you so much Mark !!!!
I polished the dull stag and did some bolster and shield work on the old John Primble and it turned out to be really beautiful - my pictures do not do the stag handles justice, as they are now just stunning in person. I really need to find an ISW main blade for this knife and it would turn into double treasure.
