Front Bolster, vs. shadow build

Let's assume synthetic scales like CF, micarta, or G10...and full steel liners. Is there ANY strength advantage to a front bolster design, vs. the otherwise same build in a shadow pattern?

There is a lot of advantage to metal if you drop it. Also, pivots, screws, and rivets are much stronger in metal than in laminates.
