I own one of these and was wondering if its a good knife for general camping hiking use? also what can anyone tell me about
triflex steel?

Yeah, they're great blades. If you use the search function, I'd say you'll find lots of info on them here. I've got one as well and think it's a great blade, and will work perfectly for general camping/woods use.

From Ragnar: "Triflex is a carbon steel with a differential heat treatment, so the edge is hard and the spine of the blade is tough."

Here's mine:

I actually carried one on my hip today while I was chopping some cedar trees down. I generally prefer carbon steel over stainless, so I tend to carry my Triflex Craftsman more often than my Swedish Army Knife or Orange Craftsman. The Triflex is easy to get shaving sharp and holds its edge well. If you are wanting to get one of the Craftsman knives, I would get the Triflex first. I don't think it will let you down.

Yes, the Triflex Craftsman is great for hiking/camping. It is among my favorites, and is the knife that I gift away to friends. Thanks for reminding me that I need to get a couple more for stock.

I love my 780! The best $11 knife out there!

The 780 blade is a bit thicker at .098 than the 740 or 760 at .079 thick. I rather like the added thickness. I find myself using it whenever I can, one of my favorites.

Got one and love it. Also gave a few to friends. My buddy Nik used the one I got him for Xmas when he and I took a course with Cody Lundin this summer. Did everything it needed to for him and stayed scary sharp. I used an F1, because, well just because.

I tried to put a patina on mine with boiling vinegar and found that mine appeared to be a three layer sandwich instead of differentially treated. I wasn't sure whether I had gotten the wrong knife or not, but it was so cheap that I didn't worry about it. I ordered a handful that I liked the looks of and just made that one a gardening tool since I preferred the thinner blades for field use.

Thanks to this thread, I decided to get another Triflex, this time a Tradesman. Overall it is a little smaller than the #780 Craftsman and the handle is hollow (but still seems plenty sturdy). I just got it in the mail today, but it was extremely sharp right out of the box and had no problem handling the cutting chores at dinner tonight. I would recommend the Tradesman to anyone who likes the Triflex Mora's.

Here is a photo from Ragnar's site that shows the difference between the Tradesman and Craftsman.
