Here are some pics from today's winter kayaking adventure. Today was the first time I brought my ESEE-4 along, and I felt great about having her along for the ride. Although I don't end up using my knives nearly as much on my day paddles as I do on my day hikes and backpacking or kayak/camping overnights, I still want something capable and rugged to come with for those just in case moments. The last thing I would want is get into a situation when I'm cold and wet and not have a capable knife with me. The 4 is my new out door companion, and I don't think you'll see me outside without her by my side any time soon...

Enjoy the pics, and let me know when all you Wisconsin Folks wanna go do some cold weather kayaking!

JGON, my man, that looks very cold . . . What was the outside temperature while you were out?? I have been bass fishing in cold weather to the point of spraying the guides on my rods with Reel Magic to keep them from closing up with ice. That area looks so peaceful and quiet, is this in a public area or on private land? Thanks for taking us along, a fireplace & some scotch would have sounded real good after that trip . . . :D
Be safe.

You'll freeze your pecker off. :D

Nice pics.

Outside temp was about 25 degrees F. The land is public access, and you can launch from various points. I generally kayak near the Vernon Marsh area of the Fox River, which is farther south than I was today, but I went out there and it was all frozen over. Farther north, where the river is funneled into a smaller area, it was still clear and kayakable.

I've got some warm beverages and comfy clothes waiting for me tonight!

I think I caught hypothermia just from looking at the pictures.

My kayak is staying in the garage until dogwoods bloom.

you are nuts, my friend  i just forwarded this thread to some of my friends who think we're nuts for mountain biking in the same weather.

Holy crap! If you fell in that water your boys would be up in your armpits and wouldn't come back down until the spring thaw.
BTW.....We are getting freezing rain right now and we are supposed to get hammered with snow tonight and tomorrow.
Enjoyed the pics. Thanks for posting.

You sir, are a braver man than I. I've always wanted to go kayaking, but I think I'll wait until mid-Summer!! Thanks for the pics though...

My sack shriveled up and withdrew inside my abdominal cavity just reading this thread. :D

I came pretty close to buying a Wilderness Systems kayak back in 2000, but I realized if I did so I'd either have to convince all my friends to buy one, or find new friends that already had them - otherwise I'd be paddling alone. So instead I got a canoe, so at the very, very least I can bring the dogs along.

If you don't mind, can I hit you up for some canoe-camping suggestions next summer?
