What is it and does it come in a SE? (He means PE)
4 years later, I still have a numb feeling in part of my pinky, and if I happen to hit it just right, my whole finger goes numb.
Yep. I learned my lesson.
Dude?! That went through your hand? I would freak out.
Contrary to popular beliefs, neurons do "regrow". The part of the cell that is severed will die, but the sensory cell itself is located all the way in the spinal cord, so it'll survive. The nerve will then slowly start growing out from the point it was severed at a rate of a couple centimeters per month. If the connective tissue sheath that the nerve was encased in, was not badly damaged, and doesn't shift in a way that blocks the nerve from growing back into it (that's where hand surgeons come in on serious wounds), then it'll grow back into the sheath, and be guided back. Over several months you'll then get the sensation back. Obviously this works much better with sharp cuts than with jagged ripping cuts. From the point of the cut to the tip of my finger, but just on the right side, is numb. I doubt I'll ever get feeling in it again. There a slight knot raised up at the cut, I figure that's were it glances off of the bone.
