I have to say I am very frustrated with MT at this point. I have tried to call them several times to get some help with law enforcement knife suggestions and supplier info and LEO pricing. I have left messages, sent emails and have never been answered. I really want to buy another, but I am just about to go elsewhere. They are the best combat OTF knives on the planet in my opinion, but man am I unhappy with the service. Any suggestions guys???

I will say, I am not just a complainer, I compliment good service as well as vocalizing bad. I will always love MT knives, I am just really disappointed in the customer service. Miltary and Police (not just us, every customer should be important) should be able to get some help with purpose specific knife suggestions from the manufacturer. A knife for me is a very important life saving tool. Am I expecting too much?

Buy a Hinderer XM-18? Fabulous knife, fantastic customer service, none of the issues you mention.

Regards,

Rich

I love my MT's, but they have the worst customer service ever. The words combat and OTF shouldn't be placed next to eachother. Combat knives have a fixed blade. OTFs are medium duty knives at best.

Microtech service sucks. Their knives are quite remarkable in terms of form function and engineering. Your best bet is to find a dealer that offers LEO/Active duty discount. I know most dealers will offer a discount but you never know. I know what you mean though, open it and void warranty but dont open it and have it break because you dont keep it clean and Microtech wont offer reliable enough service to fix it.

everyone knows what MT means and what the company is.

MT has long been known for these issues...being hard to contact or just being MIA altogether. I remember a few years ago they seemed to move a lot...and they require special tools to work on, I'm not sure if they're still included or not.

In the "old" days of MT, they made some badass stuff other than OTFs, like their sweet Lightfoot folders. But these days, eh, I'm not so interested.

Never really understood the appeal of Microtechs. They seem really pricey for what they are, and there are a lot of other options out there that seem better.

I know what youre saying about OTF's and combat value, but all i can really say is I am in a plainclothes assignment and carrying a fixed blade wouldnt be all that practical for me, even a smaller dagger might be tough. An easily accesible OTF really is a good option for me.

TIMBERWEASEL...GOOD ONE!!!!!!!

I got a Makora II a while ago. It was fun for a bit, but eventually the gadget factor wore off.

Definitely. If only I was into knives back when LCCs and Tachyon balisongs were still being made...

An OTF makes a very loud click when you deploy it. If you're planning to pull it out discreetly, you don't really have that option. Depending on what kind you get, some of them have very stuff firing switches - my Makora II required about 20 lbs of force on the thumb slider to fire.

Yes. Well said. I wouldn't even consider the reliability of a folder or OTF for fighting. I'll never understand how so many believe what manufacturers market about their folders/OTF's. That they are suited as "Combat/Fighting Knives". All BS. :)

I like my MT's too but the customer service is extremely poor. Benchmade on the other hand has excellent customer service and has a line of knives marketed for law enforcement.

Have you thought about going through a MT dealer? There are some good ones. Or you could look at their side openers. Thee side openers are nice. Then again so are Protech's.

What other real quality OTF options are out there?

I've handled the a few of the benchmade OTF's and they seemed really nice. I didn't have a chance to actually use them so I can't comment on that. Also, I've always been a fan of the protech knives. But I'm not sure if they have OTF or just swing out autos.

The only OTF ProTech I saw was a CA Legal Cupid clone.....Piranha makes an awesome OTF called the Excalibur.

I tried to reach two of the sales managers, Jim hansen and I cant remember the other guys name. Left them an email, and voice mail on two occasions a month apart. Never heard back from either. I also did speak with the reception girl, I think her name was Heather. She quoted me prices and when I have emailed her back, and just like the others, I never heard back. At this point, I just wanted to order the knife. Do you know who you talked to or what number you were able to reacxh? If I can just get a live person on the phone it would be some progress!
