I was so close! I was pretty far in the etching/polishing process on a bowie hamon and I had been etching in vinegar on a cookie sheet because I didn't have a tube the right size.

Got tired of the pan so I thought, hmm, what is a tube shape that ill have? OH, a pringle container! ohhhhh why am I so dumb.

I put the blade in with heated vinegar and let it sit for 8 mins. Pulled it out and thought, wow, this is the darkest etch I have ever seen with vinegar! Neutralized the acid with windex and then wiped down the blade and my cloth was black. The tin foil on the pringle can came off and put itself on the blade...

Well I learn something every day! Do you guys think the vinegar is still usable?

Yup, making one tomorrow. I just need to get some smaller diameter pipe because I have 5 or 6 inch right now.

It was annoying because I had to go back to hand sanding but it was also pretty cool in a science standpoint. :D

All my etching tanks are 3" or 4" PVC pipe, a 4X3"closed ( knockout) closet flange, and a cap. A 4"X24" tank takes 1 gallon of FC.

24" pipe $7 /$9 (best to buy 10' for $12/$20)
Cap - $3 (I like the rounded press-on caps)
Closet Flange - $6
