25 Ton Hydraulic Press in NC
Asking $1500 obo, buyer picks up.
I'm deploying to Korea for over a year and don't know where I will be after that so I'm listing this for sale.
I built this about 3 years ago. It was a fun project. Originally I thought that building it would be cheaper than buying one. I was wrong. I spent over $3,000 making it and I'm now letting it go for $1500.
It has a Leeson 7.5 HP single phase motor 3450 rpm, a 2-stage 16gpm pump, and a 5" diameter bore cylinder. It runs on 220 single phase and it currently hooked up to a 60amp breaker using a dryer machine plug.
I currently have the pump dialed down to 2000 psi cause I just felt more comfortable at that strength (hence 20T). If I strengthened the slide and added some better welds, I would be more comfortable with getting it to 2500 psi range which would make this a 25 Ton press. I never needed that much strength so I never bothered with it. I believe the formula is [(pie r^2) * pressure] = pounds of strength. R being 2.5 in this case since the bore has a 5" diameter. Pressure is currently set at 2000 psi but the system can run at 3000, although I would not recommend over 2500.
The hydraulic tank needs to sit on something at the moment. The hydraulic lines I purchased turned out to be too short to put the tank where I wanted so it has to sit on a stand about 3 feet high. I would recommend getting longer lines and welding a stand onto the back of the press so that it would look nicer.
I never put heavy use on this thing. I experimented with Damascus but never dedicated enough time to learn it and ended up making a couple billets of mokume.
It is about 84" tall. I live in Raeford, NC.
$1500 is a steel! (Pun intended). The steel alone cost $1500 since there are two I-beams and 1/2" plates. I've had this thing for sale for over a year now and I'm shocked that its not sold so I must be doing something wrong.
I will even consider trades (which i'm not excited about). However if we went that route I'm going to compare "cash values" for what this is really worth which in my opinion is $3000. Acceptable trades would include a fully working solid state pinball machine (I know, I'm crazy), or will consider a price cut if you trade some nice knives (san mai, scale release auto, damascus blades). I dont need any tools at the moment especially since I dont know where I will be in a year from now.
Feel free to email me at clientjb7@gmail.com if youre interested.
