This is a small barong I restored measuring about 17.75” overall, with a 12.25" blade an 1/8" thick spine, so it's more of a slicer than a chopper. I replaced the handle, attached a pine to the tang, and used the original ferrule as an inlay for the scabbard on the top. The scabbard has mother of pearl on the bottom and the rattan weaving is coming off. SOLD

$40 shipped. US only. PayPal and Venmo okay.

Any idea what the steel is? Some sort of leaf spring?
That blade design of Barong is from the Mindanao region of the Philippines.. .. The steel they primarily use there is from leaf springs which are usually 1095 depending on the vehicle and year it was harvested from. It would be more collectible if the original handle was still with it

No idea what the steel is. The original handle was cracked and the resin became powder due to time, which is how I got it.

It is definitely high carbon steel of some sort. They typically forge barongs from truck leaf springs, resulting in a thick heavy blade like the khukri... however, at only 1/8" thick, I'd reckon this was forged from a sawblade, likely similar to L6. Guessing the blade is stiff with no flex?
