Hi,

I bought this sword several years ago when I was practising batto-jutsu. I used it exactly once to cut mats, and since then it has been kept in its bag.

This sword was made by Ciccada forge, which was a joint venture between Rick Barrett and (I believe) Fred Chen in China.

The blade is made of PW steel and has a highly visible hamon and hada. Note that the blade was used to cut and there's an area of the blade where the humidity from the soaked mats has slightly stained the blade. The PW pattern is still visible though.

The sword is a classic Nanbokucho style, with an impressive o-kissaki.

Key measurements are:
- Nagasa: 30 1/2 inches
- Handle: 10 1/2 inches
- Sori: 15/16 inch
- Kissaki: 3 7/8 inches

Horimono: The blade has bo-hi.

Koshirae:

The sword is dressed in navy blue & black. I was looking for something dark and elegant, and it definitely works. The saya is solid black, with a slightly grainy / pebbly surface finish. The handle is black silk over black same, with two silver tigers for menuki.

There are 2 mekugi to better secure the handle.

The Habaki was custom-made by Rick, out of bronze (not brass).

The fittings are custom Patrick Hasting work. They all are hammered steel, and are blued to follow the theme. The tsuba is a plain circle with a raised rim, the F/K are simple and unadorned outside of the hammered finish.

I am looking for $1,650 for this sword, but I will consider offers. I don't know what the current market is like, and I won't be insulted by any offer.

I am not interested by any trade except maybe something by Don Fogg.

I will take pictures and post them tomorrow.

Feel free to contact me here or at j.delage@gmail.com with any question.

Grrr....

Thanks - done!

BTW - this is a picture of the monouchi, where the wet mats have stained the blade. This is about as bad as it looks - as you can see the hada is still visible.
