Up for sale, a rare "Thiers" folder from veteran South African maker Des Horn, based on the traditional French clasp pattern with a very modern twist. It flicks open using a knurled area on the edge of the blade tang (see photo below), much like flicking a lighter, and the knurled section serves as a very effective raised thumb-ramp when the knife is open. The blade is easily opened and closed one-handed. Since there are no thumb studs, the knife has an unusually sleek profile when closed. Liner lockup is tight in all directions. This is not a flipper; the action is smooth but firm, with a solid click on closing. Serial numbered on the backspacer inside the handle.

3-3/4" high-polished, deeply hollow-ground, razor-sharp stainless Damasteel blade with a subtle etch; hardened and sub-zero quenched in liquid nitrogen and double tempered.

Thick stabilized fossil mammoth bark ivory scales.

Long ti bolsters with a hidden pivot and Des' trademark machining. The complex texturing resembles reptile scales and creates a lot of "movement" as the light shifts over the pattern. Blue anodized with subtle salmon pink and gold highlights.

Thick ti liners anodized light blue with a dark blue anodized ti backspacer.

8-3/4" OAL. 3.3 oz.

Condition is around 98%. There're some very light signs of handling and age--the knife is at least fifteen years old--most notable in the anodizing on the edges of the ti frame in a few spots, as shown in the photos. The edge may have been touched-up, but it's hard to tell. I bought the knife as new from a well known dealer many years ago, and it arrived in its present lightly-handled condition, so it may have been pre-owned in spite of the dealer's assurances that it was new. My asking price is around half of what a new Thiers with similar features sells for now, if you can find one.

^the apparent dings on the blade spine in the above photo are just reflections. The spine is flawless.
