Up for sale is a beautiful one-off custom knife from full-time maker Eric Ochs (@ochsworx) along with a killer copper bead by metalsmith Nick Cozart (@jcozartdesigns).
For more details on the bead, see my video below.
The work of Eric Ochs is highly-prized in the knife community. If you've held one of his pieces in person, you know just how special they are. The craftsmanship he puts into each creation is outstanding.
This gorgeous example (THE ONI) shows Eric's overall genius when marrying blade to handle... I've never seen another one like this and the quality shines throughout!!!
The anodized Ti orange-peel handle provides a nice grip to the hand. The use of hand-hammered coper bead-accents is truly a work of art. Nothing over the top here. Just right in my opinion.
The shape of the handle makes the knife feel like it was made specifically for your hand. The nice index finger-choil, the straight handle (for middle, ring, and pinky) and the top slope for your thumb are extremely well thought out.
Eric also added a matching hand-hammered copper back-spacer/skull-crusher. It extends just slightly from the butt of the handle... Just enough to be efficient... If you know what I mean. ;-)
Other items of note are the matching pivots on both sides of the handle... The matching Ti sculpted pocket-clip... The lanyard bead cut-out which goes right through the backspacer... Eric uses every mm of space effectively on this small knife.
The blade is minty mint condition. I believe the steel is CPM S30V but I will check to be sure.
According to Ochs, the blade is heat treated and has a cryogenic double or triple temper to insure the very best edge holding and blade toughness. Eric believes this is best, most consistent way, to heat treat the stainless and tool steels he works with to maximize the potential of the steel.
Eric provided his hand-engraved signature and date on the interior back-spacer of the knife (8-2014). I've yet to find a knife that operates as smoothly as this one. Eric's work is ahead of its time!!!
This Tanto blade was stonewashed and features the most exquisite hand-rubbed polished blade tip (A hallmark of Eric Ochs knives). The same feature is used on the spine of the blade and a demarcation-line separating the top and bottom grinds. A masterful execution here!!!
The knife runs on bearings. The detent is perfect and the blade flies out with ease on both push-button and light-switching with minimal effort from the user.
The frame-lock release is buttery smooth. The blade falls back into closed position nicely and stays in place pefectly.
Lock-up is nice and early at 25%.
Blade centering is perfect!
I can go on and on about this knife but I'll let the pictures and videos speak for themselves.
