Local Pickup Only, $1450
I built this about 18 months ago. It was a fun project. Originally I thought that building it would be cheaper than buying one. I was wrong.
It has a Leeson 7.5 HP single phase motor 3450 rpm, a 2-stage 16gpm pump, and a 5" diameter bore cylinder. It runs on 220 single phase and it currently hooked up to a 60amp breaker.
I currently have the pump dialed down to 2000 psi cause I just felt more comfortable at that strength (hence 20T). If I strengthened the slide and added some better welds, I would be more comfortable with getting it to 2500 psi range which would make this a 25 Ton press. I never needed that much strength so I never bothered with it. I believe the formula is [(pie r^2) * pressure] = pounds of strength. R being 2.5 in this case since the bore has a 5" diameter. Pressure is currently set at 2000 psi but the system can run at 3000, although I would not recommend over 2500.
The hydraulic tank needs to sit on something at the moment. The hydraulic lines I purchased turned out to be too short to put the tank where I wanted so it has to sit on a stand about 3 feet high. I would recommend buy longer lines and welding a stand onto the back of the press so that it would look nicer.
I never put heavy use on this thing. I experimented with Damascus but never dedicated enough time to learn it and ended up making a couple billets of mokume.
It is about 84" tall. I live in Raeford, NC. Feel free to email me at clientjb7@gmail.com or call 305-877-5391 if interested. I hope I have provided enough information on this and I'm sad to see it go... and if it doesnt, then I get to keep it.
