Custom EDC Flipper Knife, Blue Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber
JD van Deventer Custom Knives.
This EDC Flipper is an organic utility folder with absolutely perfect action and ergonomics. It's got the looks of a Neil Blackwood design and is solidly built with the finest of engineering and materials. JD uses the Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) ball bearing pivot system for silky smooth opening action - it virtually flies open. The blade is made from Uddeholm N690 stainless steel with a compound grind and a slightly recurved shape. JD spent about two hours hand-grinding this blade with what he calls a 3D edge. He puts an extra-hollow, concave grind near the base of the blade to maximize its sharpness and length. This gives this very good looking blade above average performance in both slicing and stabbing capabilities.
The handles are contoured blue string lightning strike carbon fiber over blue anodized titanium liners with artfully crafted zirconium bolsters. They're single pieces that have been milled and anodized to give a very unique look to this premium material. The handle is definitely ergonomic and the width fills the hand comfortably without any hot spots. The backspacer is purplish-bronze anodized titanium accented by custom hand filing and polishing, creating a stepped look which is a trademark of JDvD knives and is extremely appealing. The blue and bronze anodized, textured titanium pocket clip is set up for tip-up right-hand carry and it matches the look of the zirconium bolsters very nicely. The broken-up finish on it will hide scratches it picks up while you carry it each and every day. This is another winner from JD van Deventer and we definitely think this will be a mainstay in your EDC rotation.
