Mel Sorg was a hell of a nice guy and goes way back on the BladeForums.
I purchased this knife from him. He called it a Tanto letter opener:
4 1/2" D-2 blade, cocobolo handles and sheath, kingwood bolster.
Mel could put a wicked edge on a knife. He was more into utility over looks.
Anyway, this knife was on my bookcase forever. I have little kids and have been keeping it out of sight. It's time for me to pass it on to someone who will enjoy it.
It's basically unused. I opened a few letters I'm sure over the years but that's about it. It's been well cared for and oiled from time to time.
I paid Mel $100 and that's what I'd like to get. Not trying to make any money off of this. Just hope that someone who had a connection with Mel will have the opportunity to have one of his knives.
Here's a link to some info on Mel. You will see the photos he took of the knife if you poke around.
