SOLD

For sale is one military grade tritium betalight recently bought on CPF from a guy in England. These are very difficult to find in the US.

Here is the information from the original sales thread:

New Tritium map reading lights / locators manufactured for the military
by Saunders-Roe Developments Ltd in the U.K.

They have a NATO number and were made in April 2009, so are 'super fresh'

They are about 77mm X 35mm and the tritium disc is about 20mm in diameter.

The light and cap are made of rubber and the attachment ring is rubber coated steel.
Each light comes with a woven nylon lanyard / neck cord.

The rear of the light has the radiation trefoil sign moulded in.

These are ‘Beta lights’ but NOT the 10 year old, out of date, perished army surplus rubbish you often see offered for sale!

These lights contain a very small amount on tritium gas contained within a borosilicate glass disc.

If the disc were broken and all of the gas deliberately ingested the dose would be about the same as a dental x-ray.

Manufacturers specification:
NATO Stock Number
X 4/6260-99-965-3582
Diameter - 35mm
Length - 77 mm
Weight - 45 grams
Betalight Colour - Green
Betalight Brightness 800 Microlamberts (nominal)

Typical Applications:

Infantry Night Aid:
Ideal for use by mortar or Light Support Weapon crews for reading target weapon charts, fuse or sight graduations and as a paralleling aid.

Navigation Aid:
A valuable aid for night navigation, map or compass reading reference point for night marches on a compass bearing etc,.
A self-illuminated unit with a wide range of uses, the Betalight Torch is compact, robust, has an in-service life of over 10 years, and can illuminate an area of approximately 7"x 7" without affecting night vision.
NO BATTERIES:

The Torch needs no power supply of any sort. Illumination is provided by the Betalight® - a borosilicate glass capsule, internally phosphor-coated, and filled with tritium gas, which activates the phosphor to emit light.
LONG LIFE:

The Torch has an in service life of 10 years with no need for any maintenance and is designed to survive the harshest climate. It conforms to MoD Defence Standard 62-4.

ROBUST and EASY TO USE:
With a ring and cord for easy carrying and handling, the Torch has a tough black rubber housing.

SECURE:
Recessed light source reduces the chance of enemy detection, and a hinged front cover can further shield the light source for maximum security

I have had it for a few nights and decided I prefer a real flashlight. You can use it to get around the house at night or read (hold it close to the book) once your eyes are dark adapted. Great for a bug out bag or survival kit and a neat gadget by itself.

Asking $80 $75 shipped, US only. Paypal or MO fine. send me an email if interested: siberiaz@yahoo.com

happy fourth of july :D
