FSH Comparison

Those are some nice Fsh's you've got there Balislinger. It's really hard to decide which one i like the best. But that Hortinized Saber-Fsh looks mighty good. But then the convexed one is sweet also. Heck i like them all.
Thanks for sharing, :)

hmm... I thought I answered this last night. that's what I get for drunk-posting.

Guy, not to totally derail this thread, but are the Easton smooth bolt FSH's considered HHFSH's, or is that term strictly for the original saber ground FSH's?

That's a good question, and I have a vested interest in the answer, as I have one of those knives. We will have to convene the Nomenclature Committee for a decision. :D

Guy, this is the knife in the pic,top knife. Its 0.27 and flat ground satin, 2008-se custom shop with Grex handles.

I thought you might have meant that one. Being pedantic, I would not call that a Heavy Heart. YMMV. ;)

Here's the second one: A Banned FSH. Full-height convex grind, satin finish and zero-edge. Green linen scales over liners. .225" thick.

Hey Guy, Did you see this one?:D

Ban did an amazing job on the FSH that Balislinger posted. It started life as a black coated original run FSH with gorgeous green linen scales and Ban turned it into a razor.

I just had a visual of Jerry with a bunch of old HOGS sitting around a round trough digging scraps out and munching, while guzzling whiskey and discussing the rules of proper Busse acronyms. ROFL:D

I just hope I get an invite!

OK, here are the final three that will be included in the comparo.

HHFSH (saber ground FSH), real pretty sandstorm G-10 mags

HOGFSH 2007 SE. DC on black mags. Anyone know what the handle material was used on this run?

Factory Original Satin/Snakeskin HOGFSH. 13 or less were made.

Nice lineup! I am curious about the 1 of 13 satin snake HOFSH. I am not familiar with that. Were there only 13 satin made?

The 1-13 run of knives with snakeskin were the NMFBM 's originally ordered by a HOG who only took some of them and the balance turned up at the Fall 08 Knob Creek show.

I know .... but the NMFBM's might be where the confusion comes from .... I have never heard of a set of 1-13 HOFSH's .... unless a set were made which have never surfaced until now ....

Black and Green G-10. I vote for the Hortonized original Heavy Heart as the winner for a user. That Snakeskin HOGFSH is too sweet to use IMO.

I'm not confusing the HOGFSH with the run of 13 NMFBMs. The HOGFSH is not a numbered run, but I was told by a Hog who's been around that they made 13 or less of them. They are rarer than the HOGFSH LE, but less well known, so many folks still shoot for the HOGFSH LE as the grail of FSH's. I can see where saying 1/13 was confusing, so I'll change that to "13 or less in existence."

OK, here we go

#1) Hortonized HHFSH, stripped by Jeremy, blade stock trimmed to .245" thick, polished convex edge, black canvas mags. Dubbed the "SFNO Killer" by Jeremy. Lanyard added by me.

This thing feels absolutely great in the hand. The black micarta magnum grips are awesome, not too sticky, and nicely textured. The balance of this knife is great, and the weight is ideal, not too heavy, not too light. Jeremy did a great job on this knife, so it looks great to boot. Grinds are straight, and the flats are slightly more polished than the bevel. The mirror polished edge just screams off the blade. This is a mean lean, Busse, with aesthetics as well as great user potential. It's not too often you get a utilitarian look that is also classy enough to transcend its utilitarian design, but this one. All the work is so top notch the knife carries a bit of class even though it's meant to go do some serious work

Next up: Banned FSH. Full-height convex grind, satin finish and zero-edge. Old-school green linen scales over black liners. .225" thick. Lanyard added by me.

The scales on this knife are a little thinner than I like. I prefer the fullness of mags, especially since I generally don't use a knife with gloves on (live in Texas). As for the weight, I think it's a little light for my taste as well. If I'm going to go with a bigger knife like a FSH, it would be mostly because I expect some chopping duty. This knife can chop, but it doesn't really have the heft to make it easy. Ban did an amazing job on this blade, it's like magic, he's so good. It's as even and polished as INFI can possibly be, and the full-height convex to zero-edge is a work of art. The old-school green linen scales are outstanding, have alot of character, and feel great as well. The liners help them be a little thicker than standards. You just can't match new micarta with these old school green linen scales.

It would be tempting to say this knife is more of a looker than a user, but with the edge and blade geometry Ban put on this thing, that wouldn't be fair. This thing is a very capable user, and with the zero-bevel the edge would be easy to maintain. What's true though is that this knife is a real looker, which makes it tough to take out and beat.
