This is a MINT tanto by Don Plozien of Texas. Don is a former SEAL who spent five years apprenticing in swordmaking in Japan after serving in Viet Nam. He began making knives after building a flourishing business restoring rare and antique Japanese swords.
It is a Ken style tanto, modeled after a musuem piece, and one of only three he has ever made in the style. It features a double edged dagger blade that is traditionally heat treated and has a distinct temper line. The blade is 1/4" thick at the midpoint, and between 5 - 6 " long. The hand cast menuki show the God of War astride both sides of the handle. Both the handle (take down) and sheath are hand built, fitted, then laquered and brought to a high polish in the traditional way. The blade fits perfectly into the wooden scabbard sheath. It also has a golden fitting for a silk waist carry as the original had. The quality of Don's fit and finish, as well as the attention to authentic detail, is matched by a few but not exceeded by even Japanese masters. Don's price for one of these, if he were to make another, would be in excess of $2,000.
Asking NOW $1500! $1,600 or interesting custom trades.
