Man the freakin FUF has been hanging around me all weekend. First I totally screwed up filing a guard and had to make a new one; then I split a piece of Micarta drilling it for a hidden tang (has that ever happened to anyone else?). Then I split the second piece. I've been dropping stuff on the floor all weekend; don't know how many years I've managed not to drop my nice little square on the concrete, but there it went this weekend. I cut several pieces of wood to the wrong dimensions. Then I broke my tap wrench late in the day yesterday, and both local hardware stores were already closed.

But today's another day. Right? Sheesh.

LMAO sidecutter!

Dave, some days you just should have stayed in bed. You have my condolences, and I assure you, you're not the only one this sort of thing happens to.

Have a good night's sleep if you can, and just start over. What else can ya do? I feel for ya, bro!

I feel for you Dave, when it happens to me I take a walk at the beach and have some beers, read a book etc. This way I can get a fresh start one day later...

Dave,

Diagnosis: Sounds like the onset of "geezer-itis". It will only get worse as you near the age of 60. Once you turn 60, things really take a nose-dive.

Treatment: The National Geezer Foundation, through extensive research, has determined that there is no known cure for geezer-itis. In order to reduce known associated discomforts with the problem, we suggest the victim drink at least one beer every hour and simply enjoy the ride.

Dave,

I've made just a few knives so far, but the last one I completed took me a bit longer than the rest. Cracked the blade during heat treat.....and screwed up the first six handle attempts (cutting on the band-saw improperly, drilling through the material). Real rough when you gotta keep doing things over and over.

Sounds like the FUF ( f*** up fairy) or foul up fairy is flying high. My wife actually made a little house for mine and I keep it on the shelf.

Dave, Usually the first mishap is a warning sign. The next time something goes wrong it is time to get out of the shop. Glad you stopped before you lost a finger or an eye however I was disappointed to see Fuf wasn't a knife you completed.

Just be glad you weren't flying a helicopter that day and go right back in there and kick its ass.

:DFred

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess FUF = F Up Factor

That's close Will - Brion had it right: She's the F-Up Fairy, and she has something special for me.

You guys sure lightened my day! Thanks for all the words of encouragement and the laughs! :D Today went better. I got the handle done that I was having so much trouble with, but man it took forever! Still, knife looks good. When I get them both done I'll post em here. Still didn't get around to finding a tap wrench yet, spent the whole day in the shop. That was a good trade-off.

Not quite 60 yet guys, but some days it sure feels like it... I'm tired!

I get the same on occasion and call it the Reverse Midas Touch:

Every thing I touch turns to crap

I hope the trend reverses asap

I had one of those days a short while back. I had a beautiful piece of walnut burl that I was going to use on a hidden tang knife. I cut the curve wrong. The width was where the height should have been. Things went down hill from there.
