Full Curving Prototype.

:
Well, I thought I would be polite and ask what everyone preers, but I am sorta partial to fullers myself.
smile.gif

I started out with a Dui Chiarra blade if that means it has 2 fullers.
The 2 fullers run the whole length of the blade and culminate into one just before the bolster.
I really believe that everyone will love the looks of this one, at least I sure hope so.
It is the dream khukuri that I have always imagined what one would look like.

Now if the kamis can take what I have done and improve on the ridge seperating the 2 fullers then it will be very nice. Trying to do work in soft wood is worse for me than trying to do it in steel. Steel is much more forgiving with files and sand paper than soft wood is.
The other thing is to get the kamis to make it as near exact as possible and improving on the small details like that ridge.

I believe that it is going to continue to balance right at the cho. I thought about a lead ballast, but I am figureing the kamis won't like it if the blade balance isn't heavier than neutral.

To clarify this balance thing which I should have made clear from the start is that it is like my little balance khukuri and does its magic act on its edge!!! That's what meant when I said it would balance on a toothpick.

I would sure like to see it keep that uniqueness as I really like my smallbalance model.
One at 17" +/- a 1/4" will be something else.
I can imagine Mohd jumping on the bandwagon if it does balance out this way.

Almost everything has a balancepoint, but seeing a piece of steel standing on its edge was a brand new experience for me. And one I never tire of seeing. I keep it on my Webtv desk.

Thanks Bro.!!!!
I know that you will do what it takes to get it done just right.

I know how the kamis improved the handle on the AK Bowie by dropping it a tad from straight. That made it a whole lot better than the wooden one I sent to you.
With the kamis learning how we think and having a prototype to follow I believe they will get it right the 1st time.

Khukuri FAQ

:
I have decided on something after reading the thread on Harry's village model and comments made by James I believe it was.
smile.gif

I would like two of these with the 1st one including the karda and chakma with the as hammered finish in the fullers and nicely ground edges, area where the Sword of Shiva is and the spine and, finished but undecorated handles. Steel bolster and butt cap would finish it out nicely. Almost a village style khukuri, but with the Birghorka's care and expert techniques. A real workhorse of a khukuri!! And one I could beat up without the maring being a problem.

The 2nd one all fancied up to Birghorka's usual high standards with silver furnitue.
I have some stones that might look good on a shrunken leather scabbard with a bit of silverwork, nothing to elaborate or expensive.
I will bring them along when we come out for the Konvention and we can talk about it then.

And hopefully in a couple or three days I may be able to get a pix of everything to post. I have a friend who is going to take everything I have to work and put it on a big scanner. We will see what happens.
If you can't tell, I am really proud of this creation!

This may be the pair I mount in the traditional way to display over my desk.

If it's a big problem we can do the rough one later after the plain blades come.

Khukuri FAQ

Uncle Bill told me the kamis were delighted to get my picture wearing that black Bailey cowboy hat - he said it told them I was a cowboy. ( Yeah, sure: the closest I come to being a cowboy is when I'm working on an extra large cut of prime rib. Speaking of which, they used to have roasts - er, end cuts, at some of the casinos in this area that would give my doctor a heart attack if she saw me eating one. )

Don't worry about the kamis thinking you are crazy, bro. They already seen pictures of you spiffed up, and they seen the AK Bowie model you made, so they've bound to have already drawn appropriate conclusions about you. (VBEG)

I really like the rough finish as i noticed alot of others do.It shows the hard work and dedication the kamis put into the blades. To me thats where the spirit of the knives come from. What better knife for this than one Yvsa based on an ancient khukri design. If this project is succesful and i end up with one of these,It will most likely be 'aged' but then again,a new one would look beautiful too.I understand why he wants a pair of them
