Full review: ZT 0770 CF and Video

I just got one of these and it is great.

This is my third Zero Tolerance purchase in a month or so too.

I hope that they do more production versions of the limited editions in the future.

If they can use carbon fiber in formula 1 cars, especially in the suspension and have those push rods withstand the extreme forces and jolts from bouncing around and not have them snap over thousands and thousands of miles, I think the knife will be okay.

I agree about the reference to carbon fibre and it's use in F1, I don't believe it's going to stretch, if anything it might fracture under extreme use. As the op tested this knife pretty hard, and in the end he stated no blade play...

I have a few zt's and I have 100% confidence in the warranty dept! great stuff...

On a side note, I spoke with a guy in the service dept when I sent my 0350 in for sharpening and he confirmed the pin in the rear was designed solely for a lanyard

Hello Jim, thanks for a review. Is it worth to wait a couple of months and pay 40-50$ more for m390 version? What do you think? I have already ordered elmax version...

A request, those of you that disengaged the torsion bar if you could perform a small test

Hold the knife closed, and bring the arm the knife is held in down suddenly striking your other arm stopping the arm and see if the blade opens past the detent?

I don't want to disengage it if it makes the retention less

Thanks in advance
G2

Gary,

I tried the arm test and my deassisted 0770 opened all the way. (It also bit me!)

My deassisted 0566 likewise opened all the way.

My stock 0770CF and stock 0566 each remained completely closed.

I see that you have removed your torsion bar and liked the results.

So do I, even though the deassisted 0770 requires a bit of wrist. (The deassisted 0566 does not.)

Have you kept yours deassisted?

Yep no assist, and if you 'load' the tension on the flipper it snaps open nicely.

Thanks for the great review and photos. Definitely like the direction ZT is going of late and feel that often don't get enough credit for many of their knives compared to pricier options from other manufacturers.

Jim,

Will you be testing the 0770CF-M390? I'm curious to see how much better it performs over the already great performance of Elmax.

Does anyone have them yet?

I think it would be interesting...

sorry for the bump but has there been a review/test on the M390 version yet? im looking to purchase and was wondering how it compares to the elmax

Should hold an edge a little better, M390 is a very nice steel.

Yep. If I were going to purchase an 0770CF right now, I'd probably opt for M390 or M4. But I purchased the original Elmax version when it was first released and it's holding up just fine. :)
