Big Calypso is going down? Bad news.
I must agree with Corduroy that big Calypso (or almost any) Spyderco doesn't have "tactical image". That can be good point also.
I have smaller and bigger folders in use. My "smaller tactical " is Benchmade CQC7 and "bigger tactical" is Gerber Applegate folder.
CQC is easy to carry. Very high quality. About highest in production folders what I have seen.
Gerber is difficult to carry. It needs its nylon holster and it is too thick. Mine is from "first production run" so I keep it only for collecting purpose.
I have many Spydercos and my fafourite carry folder is now bigger Calypso (spyde-edge and micarta handle). Why? It is as easy to carry in side pocket of my jeans than my smaller Native, Delica, Rookie or Standard. It is even easier to carry than CQC because sliding micarta handles. When I sit in my car I don't notice Calypso.
Of cource CQC is much more robust but who uses folder in any job where heavy tool is necessary?
Calypsos elegant look is not bad either because I usually like nice looking and quality staff.
OTOH Calypso looks bad if opened in social situations opening boxes etc. That's bad.
But also if you are on the wrong side of blade it looks also bad AND it doesn't look "tactical" when closed. 2 good points from my wiew.
Tactical "imago" doesn't make knife any better in any use including self defence. In fact hurting or killing man doesn't need quality knife. HE "Tactical" image can make problems with LEOs in some cases.
