I tried asking about these in the axe forum but got zero replies.:( Does anyone have one and how do they compare to other brands. I'm looking for an all purpose do everything axe. Is there much advantage in the 23" vs 28" handle versions? I'm looking at the chopper model not the splitter.

To keep this kosher:p, who carries a large axe into the bush car camping, short trip hiking, hunting camp, etc.? What type and size?

The largest axe I've taken in the last little bit was a 19" wetterlings. I find its weight and size, length wise fits perfect. I can tuck it in my belt, or whatever. I know I used to use a 23" axe that my Grand Father made, but It wasn't compact enough for me. It was great when I was at camp, that extra length just buzzed through trees, but it was the transport of it that just got me going, and looking for a shorter axe.

I have the model that's 28 inches overall. I'm very happy with it. I paid 30$ for it at Lowe's. It chops well, I've taken a couple of dead trees down with it, some over a foot thick, and had no problems. The edge came fairly sharp and acute. A few passes on a ceramic rod and a strop and it was shaving. I've always liked wood handles myself but after using this axe I feel confident with it's plastic handle. I plan to pick up the hatchet (20$) to bring on hikes, as this axe is a little large and heavy for me to want to carry on an extended trip unless I planned to do a lot of chopping and splitting (Winter).
