I've been away for a few weeks working a heavy backlog of commissions, amongst other things. I'm about three weeks behind my self imposed schedule, so I haven't really been able to post here.
This is a new pattern that is a loose derivative of the streamlined sheepsfoot that I posted recently. Another maker suggested I change the butt to a bird's head shape, so I decided to see how it looked, just for fun. I will still be keeping the old shape as well, but I love how this turned out.
I normally try to be humble in my descriptions of my work, but I nailed the grind on this one. It is a wicked thin slicing edge with plenty of strength for rougher use. The handle is fully contoured for comfort and improved balance. The tang is skeletonized and tapered.
This set of ironwood burl scales was in my top ten picks of nearly 400 sets of ironwood scales that my supplier recently brought in. I spent literally hours looking through boxes and boxes of ironwood scale sets to choose this and a few others.
Full swedge is unsharpened, blade/swedge finish is 800 grit satin as ground.
This is an extremely versatile knife. I could work well as a hunter, an edc/utility, or even a compact fighter. The ironwood is beautiful yet understated, and is about as tough as you can get without going to manmade materials. This is one of the only natural materials that I've seen take little to no damage from a customer dropping it on a hard surface from height.
Handle profile is intended for comfort and versatility. It fits well in the hand and has good manners.
