The Honey Creek Loop is a blast to hike. At 6 miles it is not very long but it is jam packed with awesome geological features including caves (indian houses), boulder fields, and cliffs.

This is without a doubt the best view on the trail. This was the first time I have ever hiked this trail. I was totally blown away.

I took some time to make lunch about halfway through the hike.

How close to Bristol is it? I got some family down there I visit from time to time and a I wouldn't mind a little detour ;).

It took me five hours (including the fire building, lunch, and picture taking). What is great about Honey Creek is that there is a lot to take in. From what I have seen there aren't to many long trails in TN. The only 10 mile+ trails I have seen are in the Cherokee national forest and one trail that runs the length of the "land between the lakes"

There are a few longer trails in the GSMNP, with great views too. Big South Fork is just not as crowded.

next on my list in the big south fork is Angel Falls overlook trail. It follows the river for the most part. The goal for that hike is to catch a few trout.

BSF is an awesome place to go. There is just so much to do there. We used to camp up around Bandy Creek while I was growing up. I have some great memories because of BSF.

What a great view through the valley!!! Great pics, I'll have to go through there next time I'm down that way.

I've got to get over that way. Thanks for the pics and inspiration to do so.

I read the part about "the going is very difficult." Do you think a five-year-old could do this 5.63 mile trail given plenty of time for stops, snacks, etc.?

Some of the trail head signs advise against taking children. I am no trail expert but I think the trail would be fine for a 5 year old. Just don't take him/her in the winter time. There are some spots that get pretty icy.

Thanks. He's getting to where he can do 4-5 miles just fine. However, I am more worried about dangerous trail conditions (drop-offs, poor footing, etc.).
