Fun in the Big South Fork

Man, I envy you guys - I'd need to travel far abroad to see anything remotely comparable to this. Think I'll now go wax my hiking boots to compensate.

;)

I love BSF. I've done a couple of 2-3 day canoe trips down it in summer when the river is warm enough for swimming and man is it a good time.

nice, looks good, was this recently, it looks like it's fairly good weather (it's -7Celcius right here)

That was last weekend. I think the temp was around -5 that day. The weather was perfect in my opinion. The sun was poking through the clouds and there was light flurries all day long.

I just remembered I did Honey Creek Loop right before Fall.

It's a totally different place with all the green still on the trees! The pictures of the rock walls never give it justice. I think it is impossible to appreciate how big they are with out actually going there. Awesome pics. I can't wait to go in the spring!

Yeah make sure you do not miss out on the swimming hole. It was fantastic when we went.

Did you climb the ladders when you were there?

The only ladders that I climbed were the two that went up to the overlook and one small ladder that went up to a cave along Honey Creek. I didn't have a good map of the trail or the area. I'm pretty sure I missed the indian rock house loop :/

Ya, after the overlook (if you're hiking the trail counter clockwise) I followed honey creek until the trail cut back to the left. If I remember right it was at that point in the trail that I saw a "main trail" sign. I looked around for another trail/trail marker and I didn't find anything.

How far is this from the NC line? I spend some time up around Culowhee, NC and I wouldn't mind checking out BSF next time I'm up there if it isn't too far.
