I took the Fatty out for some exercise and while batoning through a 5" diameter oak piece.....I noticed a slight bending in the blade! At first I thought it was an optical illusion, but I tested it against a straight blade and there was certainly a bow in the blade...I know they can bend all day long, but I wasn't expecting to see it while doing this. I wish I had some photography skills to have captured it better.

I did no prying, just batoning, it came back true as soon as it went through, but while in the wood it flexed quite a bit.

It came back true then. That's what I figured. That was some tough wood but an even tougher knife. Sweet!

Maybe your blade didn't receive it's final quenching in Johnny Walker Blue Label. It's been known to happen. Sometimes one slips through the crack...

:D

The first time I saw that happen I was batoning with my Battle Rat. I thought I ruined my knife. It came right back to true.

When I did it with my FBM I was not so worried;)

These knives were meant to give a little:D

Cool pics GF:cool:

I was just shocked at suck a thick piece giving like that.....I should have known something was bound to happen....the Oak has been aging next to a fire for a while now and it sounds like metal on metal when you hit the side of it with a blade!

Bend that sucker!!!

Knotty grain will tweak the blade wherever it wants to. Try splitting Hackberry...it will contort the daylights out of your blade:D

You can see the flex pretty good:thumbup: I would not have thought a blade that thick would have that much bend.

Another reason INFI is the stuff !

Thanks for the great pics.

cool pics jason. i love how you and i have little fear beating the crap out of our infi.

fun isnt it???!!!!

That's what they are for! No Safe Queens here......or very few relatively speaking:o

Cool pictures...I'd say you did a real good job of capturing the bend in the blade!

Need to take mine out...may have to do it soon....need a big fat tree...hmmm, the neighbor's looks like it could use some trimming! :D

That little piece took some coating with it......tough little bastid!!!! That's why I am going to burn it tomorrow....practice primitive fire making skills!

It looked so much worse in person.....I couldn't get over it....I had to send my 3 yrs old in for the camera!

Wow that's pretty impressive, Jason!

I never thought a .320 " thick blade would bend like that...
