I finally got to visit Steve Lily this evening. For those who have not met Steve I feel sorry for you. I think I will be learning a lot from him. I got to try my hand at a trip hammer for the first time. That little giant of his hits a lot harder than I thought it would...I also learned I have a lot of practicing to do. I have never seen a more simple gas forge...and the damn thing was at welding temp in no time at all!!! All I have to say is how the hell does he make a 37 layer damascus billet with no flux!! That's right folks NO FLUX and no folds. Again this is 37 pieces of steel welded together with no flux and no weld flaws . That is a big stack. I have never got anything to stick without using flux. I hope I can do that soon. I'd like to make damascus without flux eating through my damned refractory. His tomahawks are bad ass btw.:thumbup::thumbup:
