Jam packed weekend for walks. Somehow managed to get out both Friday and Saturday with a buddy, RangerJoe and today went on a little tour of an Island city park with Rick Marchand/Family and Ranger Joe. I also had my wife with me.

She figured out how to hook her izula necker to her bra. So instead of calling it a necker we called it the cleaver :D (Sorry no picks).....Trust me though, she's taking this idea a bit further, she announced on the way back from the park that she wants the go the distance in feminine weaponization. Her first step towards bra-mageddon!

These are pics from the same burned out prairie I posted on Friday but went out with Joe on Sat. Joe had good eyes and spotted this delicious wild edible - asparagus.

Red winged black bird showing his stuff. You should be singing along Rod Steward's song right now '...If you think I'm sexy, and you like my body, come on baby let me knw....'

We are pretty sure these flowers are sassifras. We are awaiting the leaves to verify. The tips of the twigs have a pronounced lemon/citrus scent to them.

The three of us, with the wives and kids running a commentary decided to do a bowdrill contest. We all used the willow I cut out from a dead limb. RangerJoe was the first to coal, but his tinder bundle failed on him. I kept blowing out the side walls and lost two opportunities. Rick managed to get his coal soon after Joe got his and took it to flame for the win.

Machete fun...I had out my ESEE machete and we were playing with it. Cutting grapevines and extracting water is just effortless with the 18" machete. We did some hard wood chopping too. An axe is far better, but it is still fun to wield a big long knife.

Rick took some shots of me doing a typical hack job...

All and all a great nature weekend!

Great pics, looks like all had a splendid time. I still haven't mastered the bow drill yet myself. One of these days.
Thanks for the pics.

Looks like a great time KGD. I'm jealous of that ESEE machete, need to pick one of those up myself.

I tried to do something like that today, but couldn't find anyone to go with me. Headed out on my own though just less fun, got a few pics will likely post tonight or tomorrow.

Glad to see you are giving the Lite Machete a good workout, Ken. Looks like y'all had a great time out there. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics mate, you certainly have some nice steel !!!!

Thanks, that was the collection of steel from the three of us not mine.....

I just noticed that after Rick's Kung Fu fail, he recovered into a natural fighting stance. The shots were taken on rapid fire with the camera and the picture after his 'fail' shot is within seconds of him after the arm slam which shook the tree right up. Notice on his recovery getting up, the left hand coming up to a guard position and the position of the feet. It looks like he is about to do a turn side kick next!

I just thought it was funny that Rick starts chopping a tree and really he's fighting the damn thing :D

Awesome pics as always Ken! Looks like you all had a great time. Is that a garter snake?

Love the pics as always Ken !

Wish we had the wild Asparagus round here but I'm pretty sure there isn't !:(

I had a great time, Ken. That tree can take a good hit!!!!

Michelle also commented on how the three guys just went to work without much talk...

What a team!

Great pics, looks like yall had a blast! That ESEE Lite Machete looks good...... I've thought about getting one..... Thanks for posting!
