Fun Weekend With The BK4 (Photo Heavy)

nice shots, warrior, sure is a beautiful spot, thanks for the lo/hi setting for the pan, I will try that in my next outing! and yeah, there is no such thing as carrying too much steel :D

Thanks man, appreciate it. The hi/low works great. Haha, you are correct, can't have too many knives. I met another neighbor there. I was showing him the 4, and he thought it was pretty cool. I broke the others out, and he was probably thinking, "uh oh, psycho neighbor", haha. He was a pretty cool guy. He really liked the Brute.

Nice job, as always. I love my 4, it's my go-to woods knife. I was actually disappointed in it when I first got it for some of the same reasons you state..... I thought it was too small, I expected it to be bigger than the 9. It's not, it's smaller and lighter, yet once you get the knack of the blade it can do pretty much anything a 9 can do.

And some things it does better than the 9...feather, draw....

Even my neighbors that know me were giving me all sorts of grief about my necker at their Oktoberfest party Saturday. Unfortunately (or not, depending) I didn't get to demonstrate the bottle opener function since it was keg beer.

Thanks for all the great pics and thread, Dubz. Always like 'em, even if you think they're all similar. It's a forum about knives....how much variance do we expect? I love the pics anyways, especially the nature themed ones.

It does awesome at feathering and drawing. I kinda expected it to do well as a draw knife, but the feather sticking blew me away. Worked VERY well. And this from someone that sucks at feather sticking.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I'm still missing the hikes, but feel fortunate to have a place to play with the blades without anyone freaking out.

Man....thanks for posting these gorgeous pics! Love to see the process your 4 went thru, from being all nice and shiney to what a Becker should be.....all beat to hell. The wasp and spider pic was epic as well! Also, that food you cooked up looked amazing! I would rather pay to sit by a fire and eat your food than go to a nice establishment and eat some high-end cuisine.

Btw, either you have ginormous hands or your photo angles were awkward as the 4 looked smaller than normal, lol.
Thanks again for the post. Looked like you had an amazing time bro.

Thanks man, it was a blast to use.

The wasp in the web was cool. I watched it for probably 10-15 minutes. The spider acted like it was gonna go for it, but never did. Once the wasp got away, it fell to the ground from being worn out. Then I stepped on it, haha. We've been spraying the hell out them anyways. I was hoping to get some epic shots of the spider attacking it.

It's fun cooking outdoors. I love it.

Yep, I have big hands. Some of the angles do make it look smaller though.

Awesome pics, I really haven't had a day out with my blades like that in as long as I can remember.
I got grief about my orange scaled spyderco dragonfly this summer, I am pretty sure I saw the guy ripping open a bag of ice with his teeth an hour later like a real civilized fellow, haha.
(Your breakfast made me hungry too, nothing tastes better than campfire food.)

Thanks man. I try to get them out as much as I can. At home, I honestly use my Vic Camper more than anything, but on outings, or at the cabin, I like taking the other blades with me.

Great stuff as always. The 4 sure looked at home there at your cabin. Seemed to handle all of the camp chores with ease. Especially liked the feather stick demo - didn't realize a larger blade like that could feather so well. Or maybe I just need to practice my feather sticks more lol. Thanks for sharing as always.

(By the way, your orange colored wasps look scary ass mean; glad we don't have those bastards around here!)

Its good to see you're already starting to appreciate the bk4, as its an underappreciated blade IMHO.

The thing about the BK4 is that it starts out small, but the more time you up in with it the bigger it acts.
I've taken mine out on around 10 outings since getting it and it cuts like its 5" longer than when I got it.

I think that's why the BK9 gets the spotlight so much instead of the BK4, it doesn't have the learning curve.
That said, I think the BK4 has more potential.

It's an awesome blade if you put in the time to get good with it!
Congrats on the new steel!

My #4 is a custom job,
that is to say stuck in customs..... :(

Waiting for the paper work to clear....

Thanks man. I was pleasantly surprised how well it feathered. The angle of the blade worked out very well for me. We had a nest of them in the shed. One stung the realtor on the tip of the nose. We've been spraying the hell out of them.

I agree, the 9 is easier, but the 4 is more fun, haha. I love this blade. Really cool.

Hopefully you'll get it soon.

Awesome stuff. Love your knife lineup. I went camping with our family and two others this weekend. Brought my BK15, 16, an MP Drifter, a Ratmandu, a Condor Village Parang and my 4. I did fire prep and cooking for 12 people for 3 days and played with every single knife. I wasn't in love with the 4 when I got it, but I'm starting to love it now. It's really handy as all get out.

Thanks for sharing the trip!

Thank you for posting the great pics. Looks like you had a great time. In your knife pics, what are the names of the third and fourth from the left? Thank you!

Thanks. A Becker BK1 Brute, and a T.M.Hunt Custom Knives Yuma.

Looks like another nice trip out there, Dubz. I really enjoy using my 4 and it does make a mean little draw knife. Good shots too.

Thanks man, we had fun. Works awesome as a draw knife. I liked doing that, and was thinking when I got done that those curls would make excellent fire starter as well.
