Fun with cheap knives

I ve always looked for value in knives. The difference in work performance in the high value knives vs the high cost knives is not worth the money difference for my purposes.
This mind set has caused me to switch from Benchmade to Spyderco to Cold Steel for users over the years.

Currently off work following shoulder surgery. Have developed an unexpected attachment to Civivi. Carrying a Brazen currently. Amazing how well 14c28n performs when ground thin.

Mora, Opinel, Ganzo.
All offer knives that work well enough to carry frequently, and at a price where you don’t mind beating the crap out of them.

I have quite an extensive collection of "cheap" knives as well, which I consider to be priced at $30 or less.
There are actually some decent blades among them. I personally am a fan of Buck Bantam, which is US made and can be had for around $30. Their 420HC and Boss heat treat is very good, and the hollow grind cuts nicely!

I gave my dad the large Bantam 486 but he doesn't carry it. It's my knife whenever I go back to visit. Allows me to fly without having to check a knife and have a great one waiting for me when I get there.

Most of my cheap users are kitchen knives, like the Chicago Cutlery 507 3.5" parer. Outside the kitchen a Kershaw Concierge.

These kanetsune chisel ground knives are fantastic for marking, cutting out craft paper, and wrapping presents. Crazy slicey edge

and just 12$

The divide is wide between Buck's basic offerings and their Custom Knife Shop.

I'll never regret the former, while I've been buying latter this past year.
