Nice pics as always. One question though, does the GF know how much you love her kids :D

That is some nice fatwood. The Douglas fir produces a much redder fatwood than pine...i have some fatwood from an old pine stump that is just as saturated as that, but it more yellow/orange than that stuff..the stuff damn near lights on fire all by itself.

you never dissapoint B5!

sorry for the noob question, but what is Fatwood, and what are its purposes and or uses?

Fatwood comes the resin rich stumps of pine and fir (conifers), it is used to start fires as in burns like a torch.
I was out for a walk today with the cash conversion machines myself and found about ten stumps but didn't even bother to harvest as I have so much already, one was four feet tall.

used my sandvik saw to harvest it, my BK2 to clean up the outer wood and moss and my Handley BladeSmith TAC-EDC for final clean up.

some of the smaller bits, pure heartwood fatwood

the knives used (and a "wee" bit of fatwood shavings...the house reeks of fatwood)

a bigger piece, about 2.5 lbs after cleanup

Wow, that's some saturated fatwood! Man Bushman, so many "danger" signs up north...must be pretty dangerous up there:D

Wow - that's great stuff - nice score.

Those signs crack me up - it's amazing how stupid some people are that actually need to be told not to go near a fallen power line.

I like the saw teeth/serrations on tip of the blade - one question - what is the notch for?

would anyone be kind enough to let me try some of that fatwood? never ever tried that stuff...is it only from temperate climate trees? or any tree that produces resin?

Great pics, and good score.

What a great fatwood score! That is some resin rich wood you found, nice!!!

bushman,
please tell me something about the handley knife. how old is it? do you like it? do you use it often?
i ask because i´m selling coty´s knives over here in germany. ;)

thanks
Arne
