fungi, mushrooms, signs, knife shot & FATWOOD!

I like the saw teeth/serrations on tip of the blade - one question - what is the notch for?

its for lifting billy can handles!

would anyone be kind enough to let me try some of that fatwood? never ever tried that stuff...is it only from temperate climate trees? or any tree that produces resin?

email me your address and I'll send some!

bushman,
please tell me something about the handley knife. how old is it? do you like it? do you use it often?
i ask because i´m selling coty´s knives over here in germany. ;)

thanks
Arne

I've had it about two years now. Its always one my belt. Great handle ergos, easy to sharpen to hair popping edge. Great blade, i plan to have a few more of his knives in my collection once i'm working again.

What do you do with all your fatwood Bushman5? You collect a great deal. I'm jealous!

"the GF and her crap disturbers "? Whats a crap disturber?

chilluns from hell.

Yeah, how much for a medium Priority Mail box full? :)

too much from canada, you'd be better off buying from fatwood dot com in the US.

the trimmings from cleaning up the fatwood get burned. Then i cherry pick the heartwood pieces (Grade "A") and tuck them away as premium survival grade firestarters. The Grade "B" pieces get used daily for fire making, fire making demos, giveaways to local hikers, Rangers, etc etc. The Grade "C" stuff gets made into shavings and burned in a can as a tiki lantern :D

Only here on this forum would you find grown men droolin' over a resin saturated piece of wood they found layin' out in the swamps.

HAHAHAHA, how true!

i go hiking with the GF and her friends get all weirded out whenever i veer off the trail and start ripping apart a stump. Then she tells them, "oh he's getting fatwood". They get a blank look on their face and go "huh?"

:D

hehe, 60lbs will last you several lifetimes!

grab a 2lb bag of the stuff and you will never run out

Who did the mods on the Becker? Also, does anyone here use resin covered pine cones as fire starters?

the modded Becker BK2 is by me (Bush Lab Designs). Theres a thread here in WS&S "BK2 LandShark"

Great score!

I got some not too different from that except for color (pine tree) from a tree that broke in half in a wind storm a couple of years ago. I cut it off to a stump and had some seriously HARD, saturated wood.

Stuff is great, it burns FOREVER, and has that nice, bacon-sizzling sound to it as it burns.

Now, that gave me a good laugh!
Nice score on the fatwood!

I live in AZ and not much fat wood here but I did see some a Lowes. $8 for 5 LBS so my question is is it any good?

go for it! thats a great price.

take a few and drill holes in them, add some paracord and attach to your knife sheath

Probably the same stuff they sell at Wal-Mart.

Some of it is drier than others, but it all works.

It may look weird, but stick your head into the little opening in the box and buy the one with the strongest smell, it'll have the pieces with the most resin.
