Does anyone know what these are?

Difficult to say much from just that picture. Just as a WAG... maybe Russula brevipes. Really, it could be any of dozens or hundreds of possibilities. We need more information in order to give a meaningful answer.

Some species are almost impossible to identify without a microscope. Many of them tend to look the same, and it can be hard to tell the toxic from the edible ones. If you need to ask on a message board, I'd suggest not eating them.

Yeah I was thinking maybe common yellow Russula, now you tell me not to eat them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha,ha........no chance of me eating anything I've not positively identified !
Got to go now.........got to make a trip to the loo with me fingers down me throat!

There is about a 90% chance they are poisonous.
About a 50% chance they'll kill you.

Don't even think it!!!
it would be like playing Russian Roulette with a 6-shooter, and knowing there are at least 3 in the cylinder.

Assuming they were one of the inedible russulas it not likely you would need that finger, as they are pretty good at getting back out all by themselves, and usually exit via the entrance...

As others mentioned, they may be edible, they may also be non-toxic but just too damn acrid tasting to eat. Unfortunately russulas are amazingly common in the pacific northwest and barring microscopic examination of the spores they are best left to experienced mushroom hunters. 'Better kicked than picked' is a common description for the russulas as there are often too many untrustworthy varieties to bother with.

They could also be milk caps - but that's also another problematic group.

Considering the vast number of mushrooms as a whole there are very few that are actually fatally poisonous. Many are toxic, meaning that in varying degrees you will wish you hadn't eaten them and a some of those may cause permanent damage, but only a select few will actually turn your lights out for keeps.

If you have any serious interest in mushroom hunting I'd recommend joining a club for some mushroom outings. The pacific northwest is mushroom mecca so there must be a club in your area. Find some chanterelles (this is the season) and you'll be hooked.

1st post!

I only eat shrooms that come in baggies, they are usually mildly toxic and cause hallucinations, but I have never died from them. Just kidding. I would never eat shrooms unless they are from the grocery store.;) Just too close to call for me and not worth the chances. I'll stick with burdock.

My Mother used to gather burdock roots (and sourgrass) back when I was a kid living in upstate New York. After we moved to south Florida she would occasionally find burdock, but it was always horrible tasting and we tried to grow sorrel, but it always tasted bland. So we switched to swamp cabbage...
