Funny: Bootleg (Fake Copy) Name Brand Knife

I have seen bootleg software, movies, books and even laptop computers – But this is the first time that I have ever seen a Bootleg knife. I picked it up in a local ran store in Bagdad a few days ago for 18 bucks.

It is a copy of a CRKT complete with fake packaging. It’s actually a pretty good copy, I carry a CRKT every day and if someone showed it to me I wouldn’t have known it wasn’t real. They also had bootleg Smith & Wesson, Benchmade and Gerber’s

How did you figure out it was a fake?

I would hate to get fooled.

Hey man that looks real to me! Just looked in my CRKT catalog, and it has everything exactly where it is supposed to be, if you found something that gave it away point it out to those of us who can't see it.
Thanks, Steve

Well – CRKT’s are normally like 60 to 80 bucks, the plastic packaging was thin (real CRKT’s have thick packages), it was just a little bit off (the weight, not as smooth opening, ect), pretty much anything that you buy in an Iraqi run store is some sort of bootleg product and the storekeeper said: “It is copy, copy – But good copy, copy – reals CRKT is verry much more cost, I give you good deal my friend, very, very good deal…yes? Yes? You buy?....very good!”

But like I said – if I didn’t know it was a fake upfront it would have fooled me

I'm certain that Chinese factories are capable of making exact duplicates of anything. I also suspect that knife may have been made at the same factory that CRKT uses and sold as a "back door special."

A "Folding Fixed Blade"? How does that work?

You can double lock the blade open – it’s actually pretty clever that they even copied that (but the metal on the internal lock is slightly thinner than on the real one)

The real CRKT’s are manufactured in Taiwan (sort of China), but you are probably right that this is a Chinese copy – its real close to the quality of a genuine CRKT¸

Heck, I can do that with my Axis lock. Just jam a piece of wood behind the lockbar.

funny, i would have been fooled myself !

PS : is'nt technicaly a "fake-copy".. a "real one"?:D

lol...well not really funny at all...now that these people are using fake logos too, it wasn't good enough to have exact designs, now they need logos and other markings to fooll ya or trick the noobs...I have seen a Benhcmade striker copy as well as a boker copy over at www.dealextreme.com

I foudn these after someone mentioned them over at CPF...

Hahaha I guess it would be - I was using the Iraqi English that the storekeeper was raping as a gag

Well – if a 90 dollar knife only costs 18 and it comes in a cheap package then the alarm bells should go off – It would suck if you didn’t know any better and bought one – well at least is a pretty solid knife so you could still use it

If its new, the packaging is a good indicator...but if its used with no box or packagign at all...your really just going on trust..especially if the guy has a bad pic of the knife...I don't think these kidns of copies are very big on the scene yet, mostly sold overseas thank god...but you never know...

Good advice but my copy came with the same packing – but the plastic packaging was cheap, not sure if you can tell that just by looking

I can take a peek if you want - Let me see a link to the auction

Also check the guys feedback and how long he has been selling on ebay
