Ok, today I decided to get out my bowdrill stuff and try making a fire again (I have never succeeded). I went outside with all the equiptment and some dryer lint as an expirimental tinder. Within a few seconds of starting I had smoke , faster than I have ever gotten smoke before, an auspicious start
. After I saw that smoke was just pouring out of the notch, I decided I would check the tinder. There it was, at last, an ember! My hours of work had paid off! I then took the dryer lint and put it in the nest and started to blow. Then I noticed somthing. It wasnt smoking. It wasnt changing color like a normal ember does. I removed it from the nest for inspection and found that my "ember" was merely a peice of red fuzz in the dryer lint, so to date I have still never gotten an ember using the bow drill.:grumpy:
