Future availability of Hinderer knives?

OK,

I bought a Gen 4 xm-18 late last week, it came in the mail today. I paid over 200% of "retail" for it but still less than I could find it in stock anywhere for. My plan was to EDC it, and it certainly would fit that role. My only concern is the future market value on these knives.

Does anyone know if Rick is planning on increasing the production on these knives? My concern would be that in the near future that these knives could be had at sticker price and if I decided to sell my user, that I would lose $500-600. Obviously I know that the moment I cut something with this knife that it will be worth less, and I am OK with that, but on the other hand if I will be able to buy one in the near future for $4XX I would rather sell the one I have at current market value and pick up one to use when the price comes down. If the price is going to stay up forever, well, I'll probably just use this one.

And not that I sell knives often, I never have, I would just feel stupid to pay this much for a knife only to find out that if I had waited a few months I could have saved $400 or more.

Thanks,

-Bob

Discussing aftermarket prices on this forum is verbotten. It constantly comes up and just as constantly shut down by the moderator. I love this site and would hate to see it go by the way side because guys constantly bring up something that the maker can't control and is tired of dealing with.

PM me and I if can I'll try to answer your questions. I don't think you have anything to worry about though.

with the hinderer zero tolerance knives 0550 and 0561 coming out, it could make the xm-18 more available, I think bringing kershaw in helps take the work load off of Rick. I just got an xm-18 for retail so I am not afraid to scratch it up because it is well worth its retail and some, and I wouldn't get one for double because to me that turns the knife into a collectable and a non user, and that is not what this knife is built like a tank for. You use to not be a able to find strider folders before, and now they are everywhere, it all comes down to patience and time will tell.

What does ZT's production of the 0551/0550 have to do with Rick's workload or production of XM's? Rick designed those knives but has nothing to do with their manufacturing. Rick does manufacture his XM's but Kershaw has absolutely nothing to do with their (the XM's) production either.

They are two completely seperate and independant operations.

its a rick hinderer collaboration with zero tolerance, and the design is based on the xm-18 but are more affordable and easier to get because Zero Tolerance have a lot more ability to get more products out on the market for a cheeper production price. So now instead of people waiting years to get a xm-18 for the right price they can settle on these comparable hard use knives from a company with a great track record and lessen the demand for the hinderer's knives. and Zero Tolerance is a branch off of Kershaw, so they have something to do with everything Zero Tolerance does.
.

The 0551/0550 is not based on the XM-18. It is based directly on Rick's Camp Knife design of which only a few were built. The XM-18 is still an XM 18 and no matter how nice the ZT is, it is still not an XM. I own both, they are different knives. Again the mass produced knife has no effect on XM production. Rick himself has said as much.

I need to upgrade to a gold account.

I would like to back/reiterate what BPG is very tactfully stating, lets not do what is clearly an off-limits discussion. Prices, Values, etc. Lets just not and remind new members as well as ask new members to help in this regard.
Lots of other good stuff to talk about.

Thanks Rubi ;). This is a fun place to hang, lets make sure we keep it that way. . .

BM11 E-Mail sent. . . ;)

BPgreen your right there is definetly no design similaritities between the two, and these knives not comparing to each other has nothing to do with the fact the 0550 and 0561 are all on back order. Also all the reviews and youtube videos comparing the xm-18 to the new zero tolerances definitly show that knife buyers agree with you. anyways bm11 I would sell your knife and get your money back before the market price does go down which is going to happen eventually, then get the 0561 or 0550 until you find your xm-18 for the price you feel comfortable to use your knife without worrying about scratching it. I would like to help and tell you how I get my hinderers, but I guess its everyman for themselves on this forum, good luck.

Sir, you've been asked nicely,... as for your extremely off-hand, offensive, and inaccurate generalization - you are quite incorrect. People who frequent this forum DO NOT approach issues with a "Everyman for himself" attitude, quite the opposite.
I do Not wish to joust with you, I just ask that you show some respect, same as is being shown you, and change your tone.

just think its a shame you can't help another member save 200% on a knife. But then again then we wouldn't have had this discussion. I am showing respect, but just stating my opionion.

Jonsa,

Please feel free to shoot me an email and tell me where I can pick one up for a good price, I would love to have a second one. Sadly, I don't have any friends who are active duty, firefighter, police, etc.

Thanks,

-Bob
