I believe you are thinking about Vance Facundo. Vance has customized quite a few different Buck knives. Here is a link to his Facebook post explaining how he slimmed down a regular 110.There’s a guy who has done it, but I don’t remember if it was here on BladeForums, or a Facebook group.
His work and fit/finish looked great. I don’t know if he removed a full.25” - that would leave the scales pretty thin. He disassembled, thinned the brass and scales, reinstalled the rivets, the whole nine yards.
That’s the guy, thank you!I believe you are thinking about Vance Facundo. Vance has customized quite a few different Buck knives. Here is a link to his Facebook post explaining how he slimmed down a regular 110.
Perhaps consider trying a 500. It might be just the thing.I did a 112 and knocked a bunch of weight off by thinning and rounding the scales and bolsters. It's nice. It's in a pocket sheath but I'm definitely not opposed to screwing a clip to it.
It would be great if they offered a 112 slim that was actually a 112. Brass or nickel and wood, but thinner.
Yep I have, and they are nice! For some reason it's just not the same thing lol. I know I'm goofy but really I love that 112 handle shape and clip blade.Perhaps consider trying a 500. It might be just the thing.

Dude! I’m not usually one for finger grooves, but that is extremely well done and gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!New scales, rounded the sides and did some filework on the lock bar. Fun project.
I thought it was going to be a fixed blade for a while. Epoxy oozed everywhere. Luckily acetone, brass rod and sharpened kabob sticks really did a good job cleaning it up.
This purpleheart is gorgeous I wish I could find more. I'm saving my last piece for something really special!
Thanks! It was fun. Learned a lot lol! I like how they do the lock bar spring.Dude! I’m not usually one for finger grooves, but that is extremely well done and gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
What did you do, if anything, to the purpleheart to get such a vibrant color? I’ve turned a few pens from it and some seems brighter than others. Some guys put it on the dash of their car for a few days of UV, some guys bake it, etc. Thanks! It was fun. Learned a lot lol! I like how they do the lock bar spring.
Yeah, sometimes, especially in the Summer, I like to carry something light, like the 112 Slim Select. In actual use though, I haven't found anything that's more comfortable than the regular old 112. But everybody's different. For me personally I do like the slim line models in both the 110 and 112. They are pocket friendly for sure but for heavy duty work I prefer the standard size frame that is more comfortable when using for extended use and the thicker handle provides more contact area in hand and doesn’t bare in or make a blister. For quick work and short term work the slims work great and as a edc. I guess it’s a personal preference and what kind of use a person does.
