Has anyone seen or gotten a hold of those new G-10 Griptilians? The ones with the honeycomb pattern on the handle? I just saw them in some knife magazine, not sure if they're out yet or anything, I just really liked the looks of them. If they come in pink, I'm seriously thinking of getting one for my goil. I think I saw a picture of an orange one in the magazine, really hot.

I believe that's a Kevin Wilkins mod of a regular Grip. It's beautiful work, but way out of my price range. If you Google his web site, you should be able to see what he can do for enough $.

hmm, havent heard anything yet but i know there is a European company that makes g10 handles that can replace the zytel ones but they are like $110+

I've posted these in another thread, but here's some pictures

You can get them from Moore Custom Cutlery if they still have any in stock.

God, they're so nice. Would be awesome if Benchmade would make an a little more affordable production version of those.

It was called a "TSEK" and was based on the AFCK handle. First released in a liner lock, then later the AXIS lock. They offered it in 440C and GIN-1.

Looked like this:

Cost around $50-$60 for the 'mini' version and around $80 for the full size (4" blade) version if I remember correctly.

It *was* my favorite Benchmade...

Now my favorite Benchmade is a Spyderco Military. :D

For the life of me I can't understand why Benchmade discontinued them and came out with the Griptillian. Personally, I have never cared for the Griptillian (not looking for a pissing match gentelmen, just don't like 'em) as they feel too 'bloated' to me. I also prefer a liner lock over the axis, mostly because I've never had a liner lock get jammed up with 'gunk', and I believe the design of the axis (including springs which just adds to the list something that *can* break) lends itself too easily to getting 'gunked' up. Again, just my opinion.

Anyway, the TSEK was the last Benchmade that caught my attention. I've only bought Spydercos since.

No way I'd pay for those G10 scales. They look great, but cost more than a BM710 and that's just the scales!

The peak and thumb groove on the underside of the handle spoils the Wilkins scales.

I would maybe consider buying a set if it wasn't for that.

It looks like this model would have slowed sales of the 710 down quite a bit. Come to think of it, it kind of looks like a primitive 710.

I've paid more for knives I like a lot less. Just depends on what makes you happy, doesn't it?

It would be pretty hard for me to pay $145 for "custom" -not really custom- handles on a $65 knife. ..that being said... I WANT ONE!...WTF?

I really want a set---but I seriously doubt I'll get one.

I wonder if I could do a primitive set out of a slab of micarta I have laying around?

Has anyone tried just filling the factory scales with acraglas or some other epoxy?

Seems to me, the Griptillian is fast becoming the new Sebenza :D

Get the griptillian!!!!

man, that ain't a bad idea at all!

I myself have been thinking about the idea of re-handling some axis lock knives with less than interesting stock handles. The issue I see is most have partial or recessed metal lingers, and all axis locks need a cut out for both the thumb stud AND the actual room for the springs on either side. G-10 costs plus milling and the custom backspacer push cost and make individual mods hard.

:thumbup:I remember reading a post a couple years ago where someone had a custom maker do a set and said maker said NEVER AGAIN! He said it was extremely difficult to get the inside done correctly so that everything matched up. Although it do sound like an intriguing project!
