G-10 on a traditional slipjoint?

The only 2 Cases I have both have G-10. They're very durable & look good, IMHO. Although a good jigged bone or stag looks better. Again, that's my opinion only & as has been said, it's really what feels good to you & what you like.

Having said all that, I'm not sure G-10's really any different then having handles in delrin, acrylic, micarta, etc, in that they're all man made.

I don't have any problem with G10 on traditional patterns - even in hunter orange (but please, not pink, ugh). Considering some of the abominations they came up with for cel handles way back -- and as artmichalek mentioned, the "Mother of Toilet Seat" acetate makes G10 seem the absolute height of conservative taste (but this would be true for just about anything compared to that horror).

aint nothing compared to ROBOT PUKE! (sometimes called christmas tree) now there is a handle material!
"Gee i want my knife to match my bowling ball":D:cool:

I've asked myself the same question about Micarta. I have a Swayback Jack and a Shadow Trapper in Micarta and although the patterns are traditional the handle material isn't.

I carry them anyway and I've convinced myself that I'm carrying a traditional slipjoint. The mind is a wonderful thing! :D

For some reason, that just gave me a mental picture of a pith helmeted poacher attacking a grounded airplane with a pry-bar. Something must be done before these noble giants of the sky are hunted to extinction.

Now that's just plain funny!

When you consider some of the sparkly glittery faux tortoise, faux ivory, faux bubble gum, faux pearl, faux bone, faux stag synthetic scales that have long since been accepted and collected on traditional patterns, it wouldn't be very congruent to reject newer synthetics as non-traditional just because they are newer. Every tradition was a newbie once upon a time. :)

Just don't expect me to buy a trapper with silicon micro-chip digital contact board scales.

To each his own. ;)

I had a Copperlock in orange G-10. Gave it to a friend, and then missed it.

...but I get to see it still, because whenever I see Brian he pulls it out of his pocket to show me and grins. :D

I don't see much diference between putting delrin, celluloid or G10 on a knife, they are all man made plastic/plastic like/laminate/whatever... and celluloid is definately considered traditional, its been around so long... Kinda like between bone, stag or ivory... all basically the same, just personal preference involved.

Go for it!

Those customs in carbon fiber sure are great lookin'! I got a sweet little wharnie sheath knife in that stuff, it sure is great in bright sunlight, the way it shimmers... OK, so how do we go about getting case to do a line in carbon fiber? ;)

One more response!

I've been looking at the G-10 moose as well as the slimline trapper.

I have a Case Ruger canoe in red G-10 and it is one of my favorite EDCs.

CV would be nice but SS really compliments the G-10's durablity.

What I'd really like is SS pins & liners to go with those black grips!

ss pins, liners, and bolsters. humpback whittler would make a fine edc. the moose would be something to consider, but it would be a little on the large side for an edc. G-10 sure looks good. the f&f looks very good on the case. i am for it. good job case.

I went looking for some yellow derlin a while back and couldnt find any worth using so I had to use G10 on a folder I was working on.

Turned out ok but I would like to have had some derlin to use instead.

I have a Case Orange G10 copperlock that I have convex by Bark River. Its awesome

dunno if it traditional or not , but after getting this one , I prefer jigged micarta on slippies now :)

Traditional or not , it wears like , well Micarta :)

Looks exceptionally nice to me:thumbup:

I like micarta, delrin and I've been thinking about a CASE Slimline Trapper in G10, I admire the 'water mark' effect.

It's Traditonal provided the colour isn't over the top and garish. There's plenty of dyed bone that masquerades as Traditional but is so lurid in hue to make it either ridiculous or offensive! In an actual working knife that will see some rough action, these materials are probably more chip and crack resistant than the animal version....They don't have the anti-social qualities of celluloid either (contaminating their neighbours etc...)does anybody still MAKe knives with celluloid now? I suspect(hope) it's all inert acrylics?

Wow she's a real stunna! I really like the look of micarta as a scale medium but that one is truly exceptional:thumbup:

I figured I'd add an image of these, just because I can.:D

Camillus did a line of knives in just that.

I'm fairly sure Boker still makes a line in classic celluloid, and they've gotten raked over coals for it.

Really? That's disturbing....I've heard that Bulldog makes celluloid but I think they are Bökers in disguise.

I agree the moose might be a tad long for easy carry; what I'd really like is a single-blade copperhead or a 3-7/8" slimline trapper with bolsters (not a bare head).

Canal Street offers their Half-Moon Pie in ebony and buffalo horn with SS pins & liners; maybe they will look into black G-10..?
