Ive been carrying my zt 350 for a while but the grippy g-10 and tight clip is shredding the seam on my jeans pocket..Will sanding down the g-10 help this? Anyone else had this trouble? Thanks

Yes, that will solve the issue, just sand under the clip though. 600-1k paper will work fine.

Dare I mention his name.....

Nutnfancy has a nice DIY vid where he applied some JB weld on a section of G10 and then sanded it down.

Use a respirator. Breathing G-10 dust would be like breathing asbestos.

Not in the same category. For the amount of sanding necessary to smooth the handle a bit, just do it outside.

this is a huge problem for me because i like nice jeans. i can't justify shredding the pocket of a pair of pants that are just as expensive as a good knife. so i just throw it in the pocket instead of clipping it.

I have a CRKT M21 with aluminum handles; it and a plain old Endura 4 are about the only knives I clip in my pocket and eventually the top seam of my pocket just erodes away. I'm sure G10 would make it happen faster, but if you wear your jeans often enough it's gonna happen with just about any clipped knife. Does to me, at least.

Just wet sand it down, only takes a few mins, all you need to do is take off the sharp edges.

I really hate aggressive G10.....

Always like it to be smooth.

Thats one of the reasons I dont like rough g10. It wears pockets too fast and I dont find the improved grip to be too much more useful or comfortable enough to of fset that. I'm in the minority that likes benchmade style smooth scales and a light or no jimping. But just because I tend to contradict myself I do like pocket clip wear, just smooth over time wear, like my sebbie and kulgera cause not "my knife is eating my pants for breakfast wear" like my spydies cause.

yep, sand it down. did it with a cold steel recon 1. it was so grippy and tight i could get the knife out of my pocket without considerable force and slight wear to my pockets. sanding fixed that.

off topic, i find the wave feature seems to rip apart even riveted jeans over time. not actually rip apart but tear the material upper layer a bit, and stretch the layers of fabric out. that tends to annoy me as much as grippy g-10 shredding pocket material. not trying to steal your topic, just adding another annoyance i noticed on a awesome feature that i like so much i will keep using my knives with it regardless of pocket destruction.

Loosening and bending the clip is what I prefer to do. I want to make sure that my knife stays clipped to my pocket, especially if it is a $100+ knife.

I feel the proper tension for a pocket clip can be tested by tapping it with your finger. It should be just touching the scale and you should hear an audible click when you tap on it with your finger.

Overly tight pocket clips make it harder to deploy and put away the knife and they tear up clothes.

Sanded my Cold Steel American Lawman and Recon 1 with 600g. It looks even better sanded down a bit. If you have black screws, sand around them if you want to retain the coating. Way easier on pants and easier to put in and out of the pocket.

If your clip is tight, sand first and check. Sometimes the sanding is all that is needed.

I find it amusing that some choose to remove scale material as opposed to tensioning the clip. Same basic theory, increase the gap between clip and the scale. To each their own.

The G-10 Im talking about is like sandpaper. If you loosin the clip enough that it wont scrap the seam then the clip wont hold the knife..Any tension at all and its still like dragging sandpaper across your seam. Already tried that, it wont work..

I've adjusted the tension on about half the pocket clip knives I own just as I described earlier and have never had a similar problem. Several of my folders have aggressive G10 scales and I have never had one come out of my pocket. I hope you find something that works for you.

Exactly what I was going to say. I had a CRKT Denali, also with aluminum handles, that did the same thing. Having moved onto fixed-blades, my pants don't get shredded anymore.

I have the same problem with wear from my Cold Steel Recon 1. The pocket clip is too tight and the G10 is really texturized. You could possibly try bending the pocket clip ever so slightly to get some more space between the clip and the handle.
