hello everyone i have another question--Is G-10 the same thing as hexcel Texalium? anyone know. thanks so much

Does anyone know with certainty that G-10 is not the same thing as HEXCEL Texalium.Im just trying to sort out some material. One person had told me that it is, and one person told me that its not, and im confused. thank you very much

Texalium is hexcels tradename for silvered fiberglass. Fiberglass is the reinforcement cloth used to make G10.

When the texalium is made up into scales it is known as "Silver Twill" G10. It is sometimes (incorrectly) referred to as "silver carbon fiber".

Hexcel has sold the rights to the manufacturing of the material to an overseas concern. The supply of the (old) material has dried up AFAIK, and I have yet to see the "new" stuff hit the shelves, so to speak.

I have used some stuff that was called black texalium, and it was not colored through and through, so when ground in scale form looked terrible. Other colored texalium has been nice to work with and looks great

If you can find the hexcel material, please let me know where, I need some more. I'm sure there are some small suppliers that have some stock on hand.

Technically, G10 is different. Functionally it should be similar.

HEXCEL Texalium is Fiberglass fabric treated with aluminum powder. A laminate made from this would consist of layers of regular fiberglass fabric with the outside layer made of the Texalium. All of these layers would be impregnated with epoxy resin. The whole thing is then cured up under heat and pressure to make the laminate.

G10 is made from layers of plain fiberglass fabric impregnated with epoxy resin and cured up under heat and pressure. No aluminum powder in any of the layers.

Most of the physical properties should be quite similar except for appearance and the dielectric constant, though I do not have any data sheets to confirm this.
