G-Sakai have some knives like HSEK made from High Speed Steel. Here they say they have two variants 440C and High Speed, when High Speed is bit more expensive. So I assume it is not AUS which they usually refers as to molibden steel or it is not Shirogamy which usually called as white label steel

Does anybody know what it is?

Here the link:

Thanks, Vassili.

Assuming it isn't an actual high speed steel (M or T series) it could be BG-42 or most likely ATS-34 which has decent hot resistance and is refered to as a high speed steel by some.

In this site they directly mention ATS-34 on different page? I think this is different then - I think it very well may be some real High Speed steel. But what it is? ACD73? YXR7?

Thanks, Vassili.

Interesting materials information, yet another perspective against high carbide volume. The wear resistance is significantly low, however the toughness and fracture strengths are much higher. I think arguements could be made they would be superior for certain types of knives.
