G10/American Lawman

What handle materials do you like, then? If anything, I think FRN feels the most "cheap," yet it's my favorite. G10 is usually nicely machined and has texture; it doesn't even feel like a plastic. I don't see how it seems cheap.

I have to agree with THG, G10's texture feels like top shelf to me. But for some reason I really like the feel of my FRN Spydies :p

G10 is cheap, it's circuit board material and electrical insulation. It works well for knife handles, but some of it being used was discarded from industrial operations. None of the properties were created with our uses in mind, but it covers them well.

Thanks for all the response, I carry and use titanium handled knives exclusively except for the Cold Steel American Lawman I got, which like I said before is a direct result of Ankersons videos and strong recommendations. Jim, knows his stuff and I like many on this forum value his opinion.

So I bought it, and I like the knife its the G10 it just feels weird after all I've been handling issolid titanium slabs on both sides for years. I LOVE solid titanium handles. Steve and Powernoodle thanks for checking in as well.

Again, I really like the knife and the tri-ad lock is just as many on here have claimed, STRONG, I'm just trying to get over that weird plasticy feel. It will come over time I just gotta get used to it.

I hunt and fish for enjoyment and the area I'm in is hot, humid and pock marked with salt water or brackish water, it is a environment which is tough on quality, well made tough gear. Take Sat morning for instance I was hunting with my 6 yr old son and 73 year old Dad 5 miles from the nearest paved road, if something happens you either deal with it or call someone to come help. I bought the lawman as a serious hard use tool that is tough and would stand up to the elements.

Again, thanks for all the response like I said before I really like the knife it seems tough as nails but the G10 just feels weird. For the record I've tried FRN as well and that is just a no go for me as that is in my humble opinion is cheap plastic.

G10 is not lacking for strengths. Carbon fiber is brittle and can break from shocks G10 would absorb based on my experiences. G10 is plenty rigid especially in the thickness Cold Steel uses. Based on the videos and some of the uses I've run my last remaining American Lawman folder through ( I had four at one time) I think its among the strongest production folders I've bought in my life. Just use the crap out of it Mike. It will prove itself over time to you.

I ALWAYS get reminded of the excruciating downhill speed record set by Eric Barone on his carbon fiber bike down a volcano (featured in Ripley's back in '02 I believe). Ghastly!

Carbon fiber does have its strong points and application no doubt, but I tend to go to tried and tested materials first.
